About this file

This document is a Special Provisions file for a Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) bridge rail repair project on Interstate 90 Eastbound at reference point 309.59. The project involves repairing significant bridge rail and approach guardrail damage on the south side of a bridge crossing MRL rail lines, spanning approximately 190 feet. The work includes removing and replacing damaged guardrail sections, steel tube rail, and bridge rail posts, with specific instructions to perpetuate existing splices and salvage/reuse undamaged components. The contract is to be completed within 15 continuous working days, starting no later than June 5, 2023, with liquidated damages assessed for delays.

The project will be executed as a lump sum bid for rail repair, with all materials, labor, and tools included in the pricing. The contractor must adhere to specific technical requirements, including using standard bridge rail drawings and detailed specifications for repairs. Traffic control is critical, with a requirement to maintain two eastbound lanes on I-90 throughout the project. The state will furnish 12 sections of temporary concrete median rail, which the contractor must return to the Bozeman Maintenance yard after completion. Additional traffic control devices and protection measures are required, particularly near the MRL rail tracks, with strict guidelines for preventing debris or disruption to railway operations.
