Amendment 0002
1. There is an existing berm that separates the “borrow area” from the shoreline. Should we match this berm for remainder of the shoreline? Will the new berm butt directly to this berm?
Answer: The intent of the project is to replenish the damaged shoreline by reconstructing a berm along the damaged shoreline. The re-constructed berm should meet and blend with existing shoreline/berm. Proposed elevations are shown on plans sheet C-102.
2. Can the high “dune grass” that lies on the proposed berm area be covered over as is or will it need to be grubbed out first?
Answer. Yes. The plans/specs do not call for grubbing area prior to constructing new berm. Cape American Beach grass will need to be planted on new berm per specs, despite old growth remaining underneath new berm. See Specifications Section 31 23 00.00 20 - 3.5 Finish Operations of specs.
3. Can we break through the berm around the borrow area to gain access? We will reconstruct the disturbed area when done.
Answer: Approximate limits for travel area are shown on the plans. All damage to existing shoreline will need to be repaired and elevations reestablished. See Specifications Section 31 23 00.00 20 - 3.5.3 Protection of Surfaces.
4. A stanchion for a solar powered light lies directly in the path of the proposed berm. Will this have to be relocated or will it remain in place? If it remains in place, the berm will surround the stanchion.
Answer: Light will be removed from concrete pad prior to the start of the project by CG personnel. Remove and dispose of concrete slab prior to construction of new berm.
5. Will grass need to be replanted in the borrow area after it has been excavated? Our plan would be to strip the borrow area roughly 12” without grubbing, then blade the material back as a covering. This should help facilitate the repopulation of the grasses in the borrow area.
Answer: Grass will not be replanted in borrow area. Clear and grub area as necessary per Specifications Section 31 23 00.00 20 - 3.2.1 Clearing and Grubbing.
6. Can we cut and splice the line running through the broken conduit on the shoreline? This will allow for the easier replacement of the broken sections.
Answer: Do not cut and splice electrical line. Repair conduit without cutting/splicing per Dwg Sheet C-102.
7. Do they know the voltage on the underground electric lines in the gate area?
Answer: We believe the underground electrical lines in the gate area are 240/120V or 208Y/120V; however, we are not certain. Verify per Specification Section 01 35 29 - 3.3 Excavations & 3.4 Electrical.
8. Upon completion of grading in the gate area, can the area be hydro-seeded with Switchgrass? Switchgrass is native to the area and grows well in sandy soil.
Answer: Yes, hydro-seeding with native grass seed is acceptable (i.e. Switchgrass).
