HSCG40-17-Q-P30502

Amendment Number A00002

14A. This Amendment is issued to answer the following questions submitted in response to this solicitation:

Question 1: Work Item 16. Do the new hose fittings need to be reusable fittings or crimp style fittings?

Answer: Original configuration is for crimp style fittings.

Question 2: Work Item 2. Clarification on how the u/w body gets scanned and what are the results the CG is looking for.

Answer: The requirement is to have a map of the aluminum u/w body that details thickness and possible wastage. Here is a detail of the process that we are requesting: Have a grid laid out of the underwater body and utilize a linear array roller transducer to generate a C-scan. The scan and final report should be color coated on the designated hull thicknesses and submitted as one final report. For all areas that the roller scan cannot reach due to hull design and interferences, manual readings will need to be taken to allow for a complete map of the underwater body plating.

Question 3: Work Item 2. Does the SNT Level III Analysist have to be on site for the entire scanning process?

Answer: the Level III Analyst is required to be on site to oversee the project and evaluate the data.

Question 4: Work Item 40. During the ship check it was noticed that some of the piping was mislabeled and not actually potable water. The piping is for jacket water supply and return to the cabin heater and window defroster.

Does this piping need to be renewed?

Answer: Yes despite the system and sub system error in the spec these pipe systems still need to be renewed. It is still the same amount of piping intended in the work item. Here is the corrected table for the Work Item all updates are highlighted.

Question 5: Work item 40. Will the Government accept the product Geberit

Mepla for the potable water lines rather than copper? The Mepla product is widely used in the Marine Industry, including USCG, and USN vessels. It is superior to copper, and uses a crimp style fitting rather solder. The routing of the copper to meet current configuration will create a fire danger using open flame torch for soldering.

Answer: Piping will be renewed in kind as per drawings/OEM.

Question 6: Work Item 38. Renewal calls out 2” insulation. Ship check showed 4” thick insulation on hull sides, bulkheads, and overhead. It appears the only 2” is on the underside of the engine hatches. The 4 inches is most likely two layers of 2” insulation. Please clarify.

Answer: Drawing 44 ANB-3901-1 does not specify insulation thickness for the engine room. We will go with original configuration of insulation thickness of 4” across all areas of the engine room and 2” thickness on the engine room hatches. Utilizing 2 layers of 2” insulation to meet the 4” requirement is authorized.
