In developing the LLRC, the contractor is responsible for all planning, development, designing, prototype construction, validations, and any other work involved with providing a USCG approved LLRC.
3.1.1. This container shall:
3.1.1.1 Only be fabricated from steel, aluminum or composite material and must be corrosion resistant (either inherently or through the use of protective coatings). The use of wood in the design and fabrication of this reusable container is forbidden except for the container skids.
3.1.1.2 As required, incorporate energy absorbing systems, dehumidification systems and other special features to ensure protection of the item.
3.1.1.3 Be capable of being repaired and/or retrofitted to prolong container service life or modification to adapt the reusable container for shipment of items other than for which it was originally intended. Department of the Army Technical Bulletin (TB) 9-289, Reconditioning of Type I and Type II Reusable Metal Containers shall be used as a guide.
3.1.1.4 Have a minimum size consistent with the size of the contents and the performance requirements of SAE® ARP 1967A. During the life of the LLRC, it will experience multi-modal transportation (truck, rail, air and ocean movement), so size considerations shall include all modes of transportation.
3.1.1.5 Account for the engine assembly mounts. The government will provide drawing 45-RB-M-084-003 detailing the engine mount locations.
