| 5 | REQUIREMENTS |
| 5.1 | General Requirements |
| 5.1.1 | The contractor shall perform all work in accordance with the requirements of the documents cited in paragraph 2 above and adhering to current best practices for steelwork, shipbuilding, and marine coating requirements. |
| 5.2 | Specific Requirements – ADCP Transducer Removal |
| 5.2.1 | Source materials and fabricate OS75-II Cover Plate, Blanking Plate, Cover Plate gasket, and Blanking Plate gasket per paragraphs 2 and 4 above. All edges and holes shall be de-burred and finished to remove all sharp edges. The Cover Plate and Blanking Plate are to be cleaned of scale, debris, corrosion, and contaminants; prepared, primed and finish painted (powder-coating is preferred) to provide a durable finish to prevent salt water corrosion under long-term exposure to the marine environment. |
| 5.2.2 | Divers to locate OS75-II Transducer at approximately midway between Frame 24 and Frame 25 and approximately 20” to starboard of the keel; clean and chase holes in preparation to install OS75-II Cover Plate. Install OS75-II Transducer Cover Plate and 1/8” gasket using new ¾” x 1-1/4” (10-UNC-2B thread pitch) stainless steel fasteners (see Detail 13-B on Sh 2 of reference 2.8). Ensure bolts are torqued adequately to compress gasket enough to prevent water intrusion. |
OPTION – To be completed if OS75-II Cover Plate mounting holes were not drilled/tapped during initial installation.
5.2.2a Construct a cofferdam box 24” x 24” x 8” to install around the exterior perimeter of the OS75-II ADCP transducer located between Frame 24 and Frame 25 and approximately 20” to starboard of the keel. Using available gasket material between the fairing and cofferdam edges, install the cofferdam around the OS75-II Transducer and secure in place to prevent water intrusion while ADCP transducer is removed and blanking plate is installed.
END OF OPTION
| 5.2.3 | Open manhole cover to Forward Sounder Trunk compartment (4-24-1) in inboard forward corner of the laundry room (2-24-4). Ventilate space for 24 hours; obtain services of a Marine Chemist to perform gas-free testing of the Forward Sounder Trunk compartment to certify adequate environment to support human life for personnel to work in that compartment. Perform daily tests to ensure the environment in that space remains safe for human entry. |
| 5.2.4 | Remove temporary covering on transducer cable wet-end connector (if installed). Remove ADCP wet-end connector from tophat connector. Wrap wet-end connector end to protect connector integrity and to protect connector pins. Wrap ADCP tophat connector with electrical tape to prevent debris from falling into the connector and to protect connector integrity and connector pins. |
| 5.2.5 | Use caution when removing ADCP Transducer as it is a heavy item (approximately 150lbs). Properly support and maintain positive control of ADCP Transducer as it is removed from the transducer fairing as this item will be returned to the OEM for refurbishment. Using proper support, remove fasteners holding ADCP Transducer in place and remove transducer from fairing. Retain fasteners for reuse when installing Transducer Blanking Plate. Ensure the transducer face is protected and prevent transducer face from impacting sharp edges during removal to prevent gouging or other damage to the delicate transducer face. Rig transducer out of the Forward Sounder Trunk and gently place in the Laundry Room. |
| 5.2.6 | Install OS75-II Transducer Blanking Plate and 1/4” gasket using stainless steel fasteners removed from step 5.2.5 above. Ensure bolts are torqued adequately to compress gasket enough to prevent water intrusion. |
| 5.2.7 | If the OS75-II Cover Plate and gasket was installed in step 5.2.2 above, leave the OS75-II Cover Plate installed to provide double protection covering of the ADCP transducer opening in the hull. If a cofferdam was installed in step 5.2.2a above, divers locate and remove cofferdam and gasket; inspect Forward Sounder Trunk in vicinity of OS75-II Blanking Plate to ensure there is no seawater leaking past cover plate and gasket. Re-torque fasteners as necessary to ensure no seawater intrusion in the Forward Sounder Trunk. Leave Forward Sounder Trunk open for an additional 24 hours; re-inspect area around the OS75-II Transducer Blanking Plate periodically for the additional 24-hour period. Once confirmed that hull integrity is intact, reinstall the manhole cover to Forward Sounder Trunk. |
| 5.2.8 | Ensure the transducer face is protected and prevent transducer face from impacting sharp edges during removal to prevent gouging or other damage to the delicate transducer face. Move OS75-II ADCP transducer from Laundry to bottom of ladder in Passageway (2-24-2). Rig transducer up the ladderway and place into Main Deck Passageway (1-22-1). Move/Rig the ADCP transducer aft through the Main Deck Passageway and gently place on a pallet on the Fantail. Using crane, lift pallet with ADCP transducer from Fantail and place on pier, deliver transducer to NOAA representative once it is landed on the pier. |
| 5.3 | Specific Requirements – Simrad Scientific Echo Sounder Transducer Removal |
| 5.3.1 | Locate EK60 Scientific Echo Sounder cables in vestibule aft of Ship’s Store (1-6-4) at approximately Frame 16. Cut connectors off of cables, leave approximately 6” of cable with the connector; deliver connectors to NOAA representative. Remove packing at top of cable conduit to allow cable to be fed down to fairing (see reference 2.5). |
OPTION – To be completed to determine whether bolted-on fairing side panel is installed on port side of transducer fairing.
5.3.2 Divers to inspect port side of fairing to determine whether there is a removable side panel that is bolted in place vice welded in place in the vicinity of Frame 26 extending to the vicinity of Frame 30. If a bolted side panel is installed, loosen all bolts and remove one or two bolts to allow enough freeplay in side panel to attach retaining chain or cable to the side panel to prevent the side panel from falling to the seafloor and becoming lost in the mud/sediment below the ship. Remove remaining bolts and remove fairing side panel.
END OF OPTION
| 5.3.2a | Divers to locate the ES38B transducer (approximately halfway between Frame 28 and Frame 29 and approximately 3’ port of ships centerline), ES120-7 Transducer (located just forward of Frame 28 and approximately 6” forward of the ES38B transducer), and the ES200-7 Transducer (located just aft of Frame 27 and approximately 8” forward of the ES120-7 transducer). Do not lift or handle transducers using the cables; always support and handle the transducers from the bottom and sides of the transducer. Remove the mounting bolts and clamp rings from the ES200-7 and ES120-7 Transducers; remove the transducers from the EK60 Foundation/Fairing and gently pull the cable down through the conduit and out of the fairing. It is recommended to have a net or basket to place the transducers in while pulling the cables through the conduits to keep the transducers from falling to the seafloor and becoming lost in the sediment. Additionally, having a net or basket will prevent stressing the cable gland at the top of the transducer caused by the weight of the transducer on the cable itself. |
| 5.3.3 | Use caution when removing the ES38B Transducer as it is a heavy item (approximately 110lbs). Properly support and maintain positive control of the ES38B Transducer as it is removed from the transducer fairing. Using proper support, remove fasteners holding the ES38B Transducer in place and remove transducer from fairing, place transducer in net or basket to support the transducer while pulling the cable down through the conduit into the fairing. |
| 5.3.4 | Lift net or basket containing removed transducers and cables, clamp rings and mounting hardware to the pier and deliver all items to NOAA representative. |
| 5.3.5 | If fairing side panel was removed in step 5.3.2 above, reinstall fairing side panel using retained hardware from removal in step 5.3.2 above. |
| 5.4 | OPTION – Specific Requirements – Applanix POS/MV-320 GNSS Antenna Removal |
| 5.4.1 | Using a crane with man-bucket, locate Trimble AP540 GNSS antennas on the forward mast upper yardarm approximately 1.5m to port and starboard of the centerline mast post. Carefully remove weatherproofing materials from the connectors and cabling at the base of the antennas. Disconnect the cable from the connector and remove the AP540 GNSS antennas. Deliver the removed AP540 GNSS antennas to NOAA representative on the pier. |
