Educational Program at Hanscom Air Force Base (AFB)
1 General Information
1.1 Agency
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) serves dependents of military and civilian employees by providing PK-12 instruction to approximately 70,000 students in 160 brick-and-mortar schools. Student enrollment is based primarily on deployment of military troops worldwide. In the Americas, DoDEA operates 51 schools located in seven states, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. In Europe and the Middle East, DoDEA operates 64 schools located in Germany, Italy, England, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Turkey and Bahrain. In the Pacific, DoDEA operates 45 schools located in Korea, Japan (mainland and Okinawa), and Guam. DoDEA's curriculum, resources, and student achievement scores on standardized assessments compare favorably to those of high-performing US public school systems. DoDEA’s fully accredited Virtual High School has teaching hubs in each DoDEA region: US, Europe, and Pacific.
DoDEA has adopted College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS) in mathematics, literacy, the arts, social studies, and science, which are rigorous, research-based, and reflect the knowledge, skills and dispositions students need for success in college and/or careers and are aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), National Core Art Standards (NCAS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards (C3).
1.2 Background
Through Lincoln Public Schools, the Township of Lincoln provides comprehensive K- grade 8 education and early intervention services, for students living at Hanscom AFB. The PK- grade 8 students are served at the base’s elementary and middle schools, which are owned by the Government. Grades 9-12 students are served at Bedford High School. These two separate school districts have been serving students from Hanscom AFB for over 50 years.
1.3 Scope of Work
DoDEA requires comprehensive education program services (K- grade 12) including special education services to be provided in accordance with all federal and state laws and regulations including DoD Instruction 1342.12 “Provision of Early Intervention and Special Education Services to Eligible DoD Dependents.” June 17, 2015. Services shall include special education programs for eligible Hanscom AFB dependents in all appropriate settings. There are approximately 600 eligible dependent children of Department of Defense
