HDEC03-12-R-0007 Fort Lee – Amendment 01 Attachment 3 – Q&A #1

Fort Lee Solicitation Questions #1 August 24, 2012

Q: Is it the intent of the documents to change out all the existing RMCS components with new? The reason this question is being asked is that the existing RMCS equipment allows 22 gage unshielded cable to used. The minimum gage wire that can be used on the new RMCS equipment is 18 gage and should be shielded. This will add a substantial amount of cost to the bid.

A. The answer is yes. The existing RMCS manufacturer is no longer in business, if I remember right. That is why we are replacing it and it's components.

Q: Demo old rack in mech room 31D and add new rack in rm 31D, demo old feeders in room 31D and refeed rack from mech rm 31E (not on material list)

Drawing M401 note 2

PROVIDE ALL NEW TEMPERATURE SENSORS, PANELS AND CONTROLS

TO EXISTING REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT TO ALLOW FOR SEAMLESS

INTERGRATION WITH THE NEW RMCS.

Does this mean new Dan Foss system? There is existing com-trol as rmcs currently.

Also, do we have to run new conduit and wire to all sensors? Or use existing cables and change sensors? Comtrol uses 22 awg non-shielded cables and Dan Foss requires 18 awg shielded cable. This would also mean changing out rack controls form Comtrol to Dan Foss.

A. As stated on the drawings, the contractor is to provide a new RMCS. Danfoss is an acceptable manufacturer. The contractor will be responsible for providing ALL the necessary sensors, wiring, controls, etc. to make the new RMCS seamlessly integrate with the existing refrigeration equipment, including the compressor racks. The contractor will be responsible for installing the new RMCS according to the manufacturers recommendations.

Q: Prints notes cleaning of receiving area floor, to what extent and which method? Will whole area require cleaning or just specified areas?

A: The areas to be cleaned shall be limited to receiving isles and areas at the dairy and back of meat, not the warehouse/ stockroom area. The cleaner to be used should be an Alkaline type concrete degreaser and cleaner.

HDEC03-12-R-0007 Fort Lee – Amendment 01 Attachment 3 – Q&A #1

Q: Will Entire Sales floor require V.E.T. Replacement?

A: Yes the entire sales area will receive new VET.

Q: Please specify if this project calls for complete main roof and associated roof area replacement.

A: All membrane roof areas will be replaced as indicated.

Q: Will the Meat Case be trenched?

A: No. 1D22 is a self contained case. Omit circuit 1-7 from the refrigeration drawings.

Q: According to sheet M-101 of the architectural drawing the new compressor rack is to be set in room 31E. This location makes the overall equivalent refrigeration piping run over 500 ft. It has been our experience that placing the equipment this far apart increases the likely hood of oil problems which leads to compressor failures. In addition to placing the equipment this far apart, increases the amount of refrigerant required to operate the system.

A: The location as shown on the drawings is correct.

Q: Will DeCA consider an alternate location for the installation of the new compressor rack? Utilizing a portion of room 31D for the placement of the compressor rack will decrease the chances of refrigerant leaks and future maintenance problem.

A: This was discussed in the early phases of design. The decision was made to move the refrigeration rack to 31E. DeCA to advise if changes are to be made.

Q: On the Ft Lee project, we are required to replace all front panels on the existing to remain cases in order to match the new décor. The end panels are also the incorrect color including the edge molding of the end caps. Do the end caps also need to be replaced?

A: The notes indicate to provide new skins. I do not see where the term “fronts” is used? And yes, we are to replace all refrigerated case skins on cases to remain.
