U.S. General Services Administration Project Name Date
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
3/20/2017
I. PROJECT IDENTIFICATION
PROJECT TITLE Structural and Water Intrusion Repair Project
BUILDING Dept. of Energy: Forrestal, DC0093ZZ
LOCATION 1000 Independence Ave. Washington, DC 20585
PROJECT CONTROL NUMBER TBD
GSA WORK ITEM NO(S). TBD
II. BACKGROUND
Repair structural column, beams, slabs, and wall damages due to water intrusion within GK- 010, GK-016, GP-196, and GP-corridor locations. Continual leaks cause numerous occupant relocations and closure of a vital auditorium conference facility and damage to its audio/visual equipment. Mold issues require frequent air quality testing and ponding water causes slip hazards for employees. The project area cuts through the GP corridor and small auditorium, and the expansion joint jogs at grid line K from grid line 22 to grid line 23. The area is below the South Building and North Building Ground Floor areas below. The project area is located within a public corridor that is one of the main connections between two parts of the building – it will be disruptive as the work may take longer than other projects with the installation of the column. There are significant concerns about continued spalling of the delaminated concrete in this area. Given the sizes of the columns in this area, “sister” columns may be added to support column repair/replace.
III. OBJECTIVES
1. Contractor shall provide all labor, material, equipment and supervision to investigate extent of water damage/structural damage in the designated areas. Contractor will survey area of work, define extent of delamination and design corrosion protection system for area. Survey is to include testing for mold due to water intrusion.
Scope of Work Page 2 of 17
2. Contractor shall provide all labor, material, equipment and supervision to provide design to perform repairs/remediation of all known damages/issues in designated areas caused by water intrusion.
3. Contractor shall provide all labor, material, equipment and supervision to perform corrective actions prescribed in the final approved design.
IV. SCOPE OF SERVICES
The following includes, but is not limited to the work required to fulfill the objectives of this project as necessary for each technical discipline.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Contractor shall provide all labor, material, equipment and supervision to investigate extent of water damage/structural damage in the designated areas. Contractor will survey area of work, define extent of delamination, define means & methods of structural concrete repairs and design corrosion protection system for area. Survey is to include testing for mold due to water intrusion.
2. Contractor shall provide all labor, material, equipment and supervision to provide design to perform structural repairs/remediation of all known damages/issues in designated areas caused by water intrusion.
3. Contractor shall provide all labor, material, equipment and supervision to perform corrective actions prescribed in the final approved design. Construction activities include but are not limited to:
a. Concrete columns, beams, slabs, and wall repairs within project area.
i. Structural Beam – Approx. 4’x4’, approx. 15 LF within GP Corridor
ii. Structural Wall – Approx. 70 LF within GP Corridor (affected area approx.
210 SF)
iii. Underside slab – Approx. 70 LF within GP Corridor (approx. 1050 SF)
iv. All sizes and quantities are approximations and require site survey verification.
b. Sheeting and shoring activities involving “sister” column and column repairs.
c. Corrosion Protection activities within project area. Current methodology includes the following but is not intended to limit or constrain the vendor’s project plan if an alternate CP plan is optimal.
