RFP:

A. QUESTION:

Cooling Tower Equalizer Piping

Drawing M405 - Detail 2 & 3, Note 9 - "4" drain piping with manual shut off valve running from the bottom of the cooling tower 16" diameter equalizer piping and connected directly to sanitary piping below grade. Drain piping to sanitary piping by mechanical contractor, sanitary piping by GC typical of 3.

Detail 1, Note 14 - "run 6" equalizer drain piping from both equalizer main pipes sloping down towards sanitary drain piping by GC.

Detail 1, Note 13 - "30" diameter manway with manhole cover to access equalizer drain to sanitary sewer valves, manway depth as required to access valve"

Please clarify the number of drains from the cooling tower equalizer line.

Is the size to be 4" or 6"?

Is more than one 30" manway required?

ANSWER:

From the 16" equalizer pipe there is only one 6" drain pipe that connects to the 8" sanitary pvc main. One manway is required for the shutoff valve on the 6" drain pipe.

B. QUESTION:

6" PVC Laterals

Drawing M405 shows six, 6" PVC laterals coming from the sanitary main piping; and drawing C201 thru C204 shows three 6" PVC laterals.

Are six, 6" PVC laterals required or can the mechanical piping be joined above grade to utilize the three 6" PVC laterals as shown on the civil drawings?

Six 6" drain/overflow piping laterals are required draining into the 8" sanitary pvc main.

This does not include the 6" equalizer piping drain.

C. QUESTION:

Condenser Water Valves Spec Section 230523 3.6 Item 2 - Condenser-Water Valve Schedule specs iron, grooved-end butterfly valves, NPS 2-1/2 to NPS 12: 175 or 300 CWP; and Spec Section 230523 3.6 Item 3 - Condenser-Water Valve Schedule specs iron, grooved-end check valves, NPS 3 to NPS 12: 300 CWP.

Are flanged/lug end valves acceptable in lieu of grooved end?

Please provide a specification for butterfly valves larger than 12".

Provide flanged butterfly and check valves per following specifications. Grooved end butterfly valves and check valves are not to be used. This is an error in the specification.

REVISED CONDENSER-WATER VALVE SCHEDULE including for butterfly valves larger than 12”

A. Pipe NPS 2-1/2 and Larger:

Ductile Iron, Single-Flange Butterfly Valves, NPS 2-1/2 to NPS 12: 200 CWP, EPDM seat, aluminum-bronze disc, stainless steel stem, gear operator.

Ductile Iron, Single-Flange Butterfly Valves, NPS 14 to NPS 24: 150 CWP, EPDM seat, aluminum-bronze disc, stainless steel stem, gear operator.

Ductile Iron Swing Check Valves: Class 250, metal seats.

D. QUESTION:

Vibration Isolation on the Cooling Tower

Please clarify if vibration isolation is required for the cooling tower.

Vibration isolation is not required for the new cooling towers.

E. QUESTION:

Variable Frequency Motor Controllers (VFDs)

Does Specification Section 232923 pertain to the cooling tower and pumps?

Yes.

F. QUESTION:

Existing Chemical Treatment Contractor

Spec Section 232516 1.2 E references section 3.9 for existing Chemical Treatment contractor; however, there is no such spec section in the bid documents.

Is there an existing chemical treatment contractor working at this facility?

‘Section 3.9’ is a typographical error – should have said ‘Section 3.5’.

The existing water treatment contractor is C&E Services, Inc.

Jim Roenick 1950 Old Gallows Road, Suite 770 Vienna, VA 22182

(O) 703 506-1960 jim.roenick@gmail.com.

G. QUESTION:

VFDs

Spec Section 232923 2.6 C - Bypass Contractor Configuration states "Full Voltage" (across the line) or Reduced Voltage (autotransformer) insert type."

There is no type selected please confirm whether they want full voltage or reduced voltage.

Full Voltage..

H. QUESTION:

VFDs

Spec Section 232516 2.8 A.1 – Dry & Clean Indoor Locations: Condenser Water Pumps

- Base Bid and Option C - shall be NEMA 21.

I am assuming they mean UL/NEMA type 12, as there is no such thing as NEMA 21.

Please confirm.

Yes, NEMA 12 is correct.
