SPECIFICATIONS

WALK IN GROWTH CHAMBER

1. Introduction: Scientists in the Crop Genetics Research Unit in Stoneville, Mississippi are developing cotton and soybean varieties with resistance to reniform nematode. Evaluation of plant materials for resistance to the nematodes is done under climate-controlled conditions in walk in growth chambers.

2. Scope: The Contractor shall provide and install a walk in growth chamber as described below in section 3.

3. Technical Requirements: One (1) walk in growth chamber, delivered and installed.

Specifications: Walk in growth room measuring approximately 12 feet wide x 10 feet deep x 9 feet tall (exterior measurements) to fit in the allotted space in Building 6. Unit will be installed on site and will include insulated wall and ceiling panels and an entry door that can accommodate our lab carts (approximately 36 inches wide); the existing cement floor will serve as the floor of the chamber. Unit should have a connection for a water hose and include at least one power outlet. Temperature and lighting to be scheduled using a programmable controller that is included with the unit. The controller should monitor conditions inside the chamber and alert personnel when temperature in the chamber exceeds the upper and lower limits specified with audible (preferred) or visual alarms. Temperature range desired is +5 C to +35 C with the lights off, and +15 C to +40 C with the lights on. LED lighting will be used for energy savings and should provide at least 1,000 micromoles per square meter per second (µmoles/m2/s); ability to adjust light intensity is desirable. Fans circulate the air within the chamber. An air-cooled condensing unit with CFC-free refrigerant is required as the method of cooling the chamber;

water-cooled condensing units are not acceptable because the building does not have a chilled water supply that could be tapped for this use. Warranty of at least two years on parts and labor.
