12405B24Q0351- Questions and Answers Page 1 of 3
Below is the response from a vendor:
• Their condensing units currently use R450A refrigerant. Can you inquire if this is a dealbreaker so we know if we can proceed to offer a quote?
R450A refrigerant was listed on the EPA’s SNAP website as an acceptable refrigerant for both new and retrofit applications when I checked the site on 08/01/2024. The requirement to avoid ozone-depleting refrigerants is stated in policy 134.2.v5, “Energy, Water, and Sustainability Policy”: “If equipment using CFCs or HCFCs is being replaced or undergoing major repairs, do not replace it in kind. Replace it with equipment using ozone-friendly HFC refrigerants. Use alternatives to ozone depleting substances as approved by the EPA Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program. The EPA SNAP Web site is at:
https://www.epa.gov/snap. HCFC gas may be purchased for maintenance if it is not cost effective to replace existing serviceable equipment. Some equipment may be converted.”
• Is there any shelving requirement for this room? If so, how many tiers and what depth of shelf is preferred (24”, 30”, etc.)?
We already have special benches/trays to accommodate the types of containers that we use, so no shelving is needed.
• LED Lighting: We can provide simple White LED lighting that will meet this bid requirement, but we can also provide a multi-color (white, blue, red, and far-red) LED light fixture (either ceiling mounted if no shelving or over each tier if shelving needed) with each color being independently dimmable providing full spectral control for the researcher. Is there a preference for the researcher on the type of light needed?
The growth room that is being replaced was lit with a simple mix of white fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs. The spectrum of light emitted by this combination of bulbs met our needs (vegetative growth of plants for a typical duration of 5 weeks), so if the white LED lighting emits a comparable range of wavelengths that should work for us.
• Is there any need for additive humidification or dehumidification? If so what RH %?
The growth room that is being replaced did not have any specific controls to set the relative humidity in the chamber, so we did not ask for anything special to be included in the replacement unit. We do not have any need to specifically increase or decrease the relative humidity in the experiments that will be done in this chamber; ambient is fine.
• Is there any need for additive CO2 or CO2 removal? If so what CO2 ppm levels (2000ppm, 5000ppm, etc.)?
No. The growth room that is being replaced did not have any specific controls to add or remove carbon dioxide in the chamber, so we did not ask for anything special to be included in the replacement unit.
• Is there a loading dock available for delivery?
We do have a loading dock at the research station, but it is in a separate building from where the growth room will be installed. Access to the room where the unit will be installed is through a set of double doors. See Picture below: The location of the loading dock (building with red dot marked with “L”) in relation to the building that will house the growth room (building with red dot marked with “G”) is shown in the photo below. ---------------------
