Specifications Grass Hay Bales FY23
GENERAL INFORMATION
· Background and Purpose:
Scientists at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) are developing scientific information and new technology to solve high priority problems for the U.S. beef, sheep, and swine industries. Grass Hay is needed to help sustain the cow herds when the grazing season is complete and feedlot operations for a more balanced ration.
CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

Grass Hay Bales (300 Tons)
· Product Specifications:
Round or Square bales of Brome or prairie grass hay. Grass hay bales should be of the 2022 or 2023 crop year and should not be foul smelling or moldy. Grass Hay baled from Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) ground will not be accepted. Grass hay should also be a minimum of 10.0% crude protein and a minimum of 55% Total Digestible Nutrients (TDN). Grass hay bales that do not meet these specifications will be rejected. Grass hay bales must be delivered to USDA/ARS/USMARC; Clay Center, NE and USMARC personnel will unload the hay bales. Truck drivers will need to coordinate with USMARC personnel on delivery times and schedules but normal hours of 7:00am -3:30pm Monday-Friday are anticipated. A scale ticket showing gross, tare, and net weight is required on every load delivered. A State of Nebraska certified scale is located on USMARC facilities and can be used for obtaining weights. Delivery is anticipated to start upon contract award and must be completed in full within 30 days.
