The contract includes substantial modifications to supplemental specifications covering drainage systems, cement concrete pavements, milled rumble strips (Types A-D), impact attenuators, traffic signal wiring and grounding, power pedestals, vehicle detection systems, pedestrian detectors and pushbuttons, and connected work zone notification system devices. The project includes traffic control items such as arrow boards (Type B and C), portable changeable message signs, and reflectorized drums, along with structural concrete work (5000 PSI cement concrete), steel reinforcement (epoxy-coated), and steel beam cleaning and painting across multiple bridges. Price adjustments for structural steel and reinforcing steel are calculated using the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index (PPI Series ID WPU101702) with a 5% variance threshold, with base prices established for 32 categories of steel materials ranging from $0.52 to $4.61 per pound. The contract is valued at $1,623,000 and is subject to prevailing wage rates as determined by the Massachusetts Department of Labor and Workforce Development, with base prices for liquid asphalt at $712.50 per ton, Portland cement at $452.13 per ton, diesel fuel at $4.497 per gallon, gasoline at $3.752 per gallon, and a Steel Base Price Index of 362.0.

| If | the | signal | is | programmed | to | rest | in | walk, | the | locator | tone | shall | resume | 7 | seconds | after | the | start | of |
| the | walk | interval. | ||||||||||||||
| The | locator | tone | shall | be | disabled | if | the | traffic | control | signal | or | pedestrian | hybrid | beacon | is | operating |
in an emergency or fault flashing mode.
| The | locator | tone | shall | be | active | during | the | flashing | yellow | and | alternating | flashing | red | intervals | of | a |
| pedestrian | hybrid | beacon | phasing | sequence. |
| Upon | button | press, | the | locator | tone | at | that | pushbutton | shall | be | interrupted | and | a | speech | message | of | “Wait” |
| shall | be | broadcast. |
| The | normal | status | of | the | pilot | light | shall | be | dark. | The | pilot | light | shall | illuminate | upon | button | press | and | stay |
| illuminated | until | the | start | of | the | walk | interval, | when | it | shall | return | to | dark. | If | the | associated | pedestrian | phase | |
| is | set | to | pedestrian | recall, | the | pilot | light | shall | stay | illuminated | for | all | intervals | except | for | the | walk | interval. |
| The | audible | walk | indication | shall | an | audible | tone | unless | a | speech | message | is | called | for | in | the | Plans. | The |
| audible | tone | shall | repeat | at | 8 | to | 10 | ticks | per | second, | in | multiple | frequencies, | with | the | dominant | component | at |
| 880 | Hz. |
If a speech message is used, the following shall apply:
| For | exclusive | pedestrian | phases, | during | the | walk | interval | the | speech | message | shall | be: | “walk | sign | is |
| on | for | all | crossings.” | This | message | shall | be | broadcast | a | single | instance. |
| *For | concurrent | pedestrian | phases, | during | the | walk | interval | the | speech | message | shall | be: | “[STREET | ||
| NAME]. | Walk | sign | is | on | for | [STREET | NAME].” | This | message | shall | be | broadcast | a | single | instance. |
| If | the | signal | is | programmed | to | rest | in | walk, | the | concurrent | pedestrian | speech | message | shall | be |
| repeated | upon | each | subsequent | button | press. |
*Note: See Plans for Street Name information.
The vibrotactile arrow shall vibrate during the walk interval.
| The | Contractor | shall | include | a | fault | relay | that | will | default | to | placing | a | constant | pedestrian | call | from | any |
| pushbutton | assembly | that | fails | to | communicate | back | to | the | in‐cabinet | control | unit. |
| The | Contractor | shall | connect | the | in‐cabinet | control | unit | to | the | Field | Monitoring | Unit | (FMU) | via | an | open |
| ethernet | port. |
00715 - 11
819.62: VDS Testing and Evaluation
| After | the | VDS | is | installed, | but | prior | to | acceptance, | the | Contractor | shall | conduct | an | evaluation | of | the | system | in |
| the | presence | of | the | Engineer. | The | purpose | of | the | evaluation | is | to | certify | the | system | is | operating | per | the |
| requirements | of | M10.08.0: | Vehicle | Detection | Systems, | M10.08.1: | Passive | Stop | Line | Detectors, | and | M10.08.2: | ||||||

| part | of | the | Shop | Drawing | submittal. |
| The | testing | and | evaluation | shall | take | place | for | a | minimum | of | 30 | minutes | under | moderate | live | traffic |
| conditions. | Testing | shall | not | be | conducted | during | inclement | weather. |
| If | the | Engineer | determines | that | the | system | does | not | meet | the | operational | requirements, | the | Contractor | will | |||
| be | required | to | adjust | the | location, | orientation, | and/or | number | of | detector/sensors. | The | Contractor | may | also | ||||
| adjust | the | location | of | the | detection | zones | at | this | time. | Upon | completion | of | this | work, | the | system | shall | be |
| reevaluated | in | the | presence | of | the | Engineer. | This | process | shall | be | repeated | until | the | operational | ||||
| requirements | are | met. |
| All | costs | associated | with | testing | and | evaluation | of | the | VDS, | including | the | repositioning | or | addition | of | new |
