About this file
This document is a Single Source Justification for a simplified acquisition to purchase hardware, technical support, and maintenance for a Gigamon appliance used by the 2nd Systems Operations Squadron Cyber Defense Flight at Offutt AFB. The purpose is to renew the annual sustainment support for the Gigamon system, which is part of the Air Force Cyber Security Weapon System. Due to the critical nature of the system and the lack of alternative solutions, the contracting officer has determined that Gigamon is the only reasonable source. The contract value is estimated at $50,000. The justification cites the use of the Gigamon system by the 2nd Weather Support Squadron Cyber Defense Team in support of the Air Force Cyber Security Weapon System and the cost effectiveness of renewing the support agreement versus replacing the equipment.

2. If a DoD component must obtain the commercial products or services outside the DoD ESI EA, the component must seek a waiver from a management official designated by the DoD Component. After the steps in paragraphs (5)(i) and (5)(ii)(A) of the DFARS PGI 208.7403, Acquisition procedures have been completed.

Section E: Steps to Preclude Future Single Source or Brand Name Awards
This appliance has a End of Life/End of Support Date that is five years after the last sale date for hardware and one year after the last sale date for End of Life of the software. Based on current electronic component supply issues, new Gigamon hardware announcements could be as early as 2027 for this appliance. At such time when this equipment becomes obsolete and is no longer eligible for manufacturers' support, the Government will look into alternative brand names and equipment refreshes.
