About this file
This is an Insurance Requirements document for the City of Meriden, Connecticut, establishing minimum insurance coverage standards for contractors and vendors engaged in contract work with the municipality. The document specifies comprehensive insurance requirements across multiple coverage categories that must remain in force throughout the contract term. Contractors must name the City of Meriden as an Additional Insured on a primary and non-contributory basis for all policies except Workers' Compensation and must include a Waiver of Subrogation provision. All insurance carriers must be approved in Connecticut with a minimum AM Best's rating of "A-" VIII.
The required minimum coverage limits include General Liability of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate, Auto Liability of $1,000,000 combined single limit, Workers' Compensation at statutory limits with Employers' Liability of $1,000,000 per accident and per disease, and an Umbrella/Excess Liability policy. For policies issued on a "Claims Made" basis, continuous renewal is required for a minimum of two years following contract completion, with retroactive date changes requiring an endorsement to extend the reporting period. Original, completed Certificates of Insurance must be submitted to the City of Meriden prior to contract issuance, with replacement or renewal certificates provided at least 30 days before policy expiration. Contractors must provide 30 days' written notice to the City of Meriden if any policy is cancelled, limits are reduced, or coverage is altered.
