About this file
This document is a multi-page informational guide about REAL ID requirements for accessing military installations and federal sites, effective May 7, 2025. The document details acceptable forms of identification, including REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses, U.S. passports, Department of Defense IDs, tribal nation IDs, and other specialized credentials. Key specifications include that a temporary driver's license is not an acceptable form of identification, and that REAL ID licenses provide additional access for activities like entering federal facilities, accessing military bases, and boarding domestic flights.
The guide provides a comprehensive list of acceptable identification types, such as Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential, Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), and Enhanced Driver's Licenses from specific states (Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington). The document includes visual examples of various acceptable IDs and a comparison chart showing the expanded capabilities of REAL ID-compliant licenses versus standard licenses, emphasizing the importance of obtaining a REAL ID-compliant form of identification before the May 2025 deadline.
