About this file

This document is a follow-up asbestos inspection report prepared by Environmental Testing & Management, Inc. (ETM) for Greenville County Parks, Recreation and Tourism, conducted at the former Woodmont High School site located at 150 Woodmont School Road in Piedmont, South Carolina. The inspection was carried out by Andrew Schauder on July 9-10, 2024, focusing on select buildings (Buildings F, G, H, E, and I) previously sampled in 2017. The purpose was to conduct a comprehensive asbestos-containing materials survey prior to planned demolition of the remaining school buildings, with the site intended to become low-income housing.

The investigation involved collecting multiple samples from various building materials, including floor tiles, mastic, ceiling tiles, sheetrock, plaster, and window glazing across different buildings. Laboratory analysis by SEEML Labs revealed asbestos-containing materials in several locations: Building F had asbestos in 9" and 12" floor tiles and cement board under windows, Building E and G contained asbestos in 9" floor tiles and mastic, while Buildings H and I showed no asbestos-containing materials. The report notes that some floor tiles are in a state of disrepair, particularly in Buildings F and G, which will require careful abatement procedures. The comprehensive survey provides detailed documentation for safe demolition and potential redevelopment of the former school site.
