About this file
This document provides details on a fish habitat concurrence issued by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The concurrence is for the U.S. Forest Service's proposal to maintain the fish pass on Anan Creek, which includes constructing concrete reinforcement walls and a new footing within the pass. Work may include using a temporary fish exclusion net, dewatering pumps and structures, and coordinating with state and federal agencies if in-water work occurs when adult fish are present. Best management practices must be followed to control sediment and erosion and avoid fish impacts. The concurrence is valid for the life of the structure.
This related federal contract opportunity posting is for Phase I of reconstructing the remote bear-viewing facilities at Anan Creek. Base work includes demolishing and removing the upper and middle timber observation decks and stair structures, relocating existing structures, demolishing a trail portion, and constructing new footings, decks, shelters, trails and signs. Option work comprises building a temporary connector staircase, repairing existing staircases and decks, and preparing shop drawings for a future metal spiral staircase. The solicitation is set aside for total small businesses and interested parties should review the attached solicitation documents.

ISSUED: August 28, 2020 EXPIRES: Life of Structure

RE: Fish Pass Maintenance Anan Creek (Stream Number 107-20-10010) Section 1, T 66S, R 87E, CRM (Bradfield Canal A-6) Location: 56.1791 N, 131.8829 W
Dear Mr. Kolarich:
Pursuant to AS 16.05.841 and AS 16.05.871(b), the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) Habitat Section reviewed your proposal to maintain the Anan Creek fish pass.
Project Description You will construct concrete reinforcement walls and a new 4x4 ft wide concrete footing within the Anan Creek fish pass to support alterations to the viewing area and superstructure according to your plans (enclosed). You may use a temporary fish exclusion net to corral and exclude fish from the work area if present, and pumps, sandbags, and cofferdams for dewatering.
The adult salmon run will be complete by about mid-November and the fish pass is expected to remain open until about March 2021. If in-water work occurs when adult fish are present, the contractor will coordinate with USFS and ADF&G Habitat Section staffs to discuss the work plan and identify mitigation measures necessary to protect fish or provide temporary fish passage.
During implementation of this project, you will employ all applicable U.S. Forest Service best management practices to control sedimentation and erosion and avoid impacts to fish and fish passage.
