About this file

This document specifies salient characteristics for a High-Density Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) Shape Sensing and Interrogation System, identifying PhotonFirst AGTR-NG4 as the brand name or equal.

CLIN0001 requires a military-qualified, high-speed optical interrogation unit for laboratory validation and aircraft flight-test installation. Non-negotiable specifications include: minimum four parallel optical channels with simultaneous, non-multiplexed data capture; minimum 22 kHz simultaneous sampling rate across all four channels to capture high-frequency structural vibrations; integrated onboard edge computing and non-volatile digital storage; native Ethernet (UDP/TCP) output with integrated NTP Timestamping for synchronization with master flight-test telemetry; continuous operational rating from -45°C to +70°C in unpressurized aircraft compartments; and pre-certification or verified compliance with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, and DO-160G standards, including all customized enclosures. CLIN0002 covers PhotonFirst Fanout Arrays providing high-density, real-time structural shape, strain, and temperature measurements, consisting of four total single monolithic optical fibers with combined sensing length of 50 feet, featuring multiple integrated FBG sensing nodes inscribed along each fiber's span for continuous real-time shape-deflection calculations. The sensing fibers must have high-temperature polyimide coating rated from -45°C to 300°C for direct adhesive surface bonding and slip-free strain transfer. CLIN0003 specifies PhotonFirst Polyimide Sensing Fiber with a ruggedized 4-port optical connector breakout/fanout harness utilizing discrete connectors (e.g., standard low-loss FC/APC or equivalent) for field-swappable 50-foot sensing lines, with all custom connectorization, splicing, and mechanical enclosures meeting MIL-STD-810 environmental requirements. CLIN0004 requires engineering support and software integration including up to eight hours of specialized engineering assembly and termination support to fabricate and calibrate the initial optical harness, plus a fully functional software suite capable of real-time 2D/3D shape reconstruction, data logging, and raw telemetry export on standard Windows/Linux host computers.

Salient Characteristics: High-Density FBG Shape Sensing & Interrogation System

(Brand Name: PhotonFirst AGTR-NG4 or Equal)

CLIN0001: PhotonFirst AGTR-NG4

The core interrogator hardware and processing system must be a military-qualified, high-speed optical interrogation unit designed for laboratory validation and subsequent installation on active flight-test aircraft. The unit must natively satisfy the following non-negotiable parameters:

• Optical Channels: A minimum of four (4) parallel optical channels, operating simultaneously with non-multiplexed data capture.

• Sampling Rate: A minimum simultaneous sampling rate of 22 kHz across all four (4) channels to capture high-frequency structural vibrations.

• Edge Computing & Storage: Integrated onboard data processing and non-volatile digital storage.

• Data Protocols & Synchronization: Native Ethernet (UDP/TCP) output with integrated NTP Timestamping to synchronize with master flight-test telemetry streams.

• Operational Temperature: Continuous operational rating from -45°C up to +70°C in unpressurized aircraft compartments.

• Mandatory Flight & Military Standards: The system (including all customized enclosures) must be pre-certified or verified compliant with:

• MIL-STD-810 (Environmental Engineering Considerations & Laboratory Tests)

• MIL-STD-704 (Aircraft Electric Power Characteristics)

• MIL-STD-461 (Electromagnetic Interference Control)

• DO-160G (Environmental Conditions for Airborne Equipment)

CLIN0002: PhotonFirst Fanout Arrays

The sensor topology must enable high-density, real-time structural shape, strain, and temperature measurements across large physical structures:

• Monolithic Long-Span Sensing Fibers: The sensing element must consist of four (4) total, single monolithic optical fibers. The total combined sensing length across all four (4) fibers must equal 50 feet of sensing rather than requiring any single individual fiber to provide a full 50-foot span. Multiple, integrated Fiber Bragg Grating

Salient Characteristics: High-Density FBG Shape Sensing & Interrogation System

(FBG) sensing nodes must be inscribed along the span of each fiber to enable continuous real-time shape-deflection calculations.

• Coating & Survivability: Sensing fibers must feature a high-temperature polyimide coating (rated from -45°C to 300°C) to allow direct adhesive surface bonding and slip-free strain transfer.

CLIN0003: PhotonFirst Polyimide Sensing Fiber

• 4-Port Connectorized Fanout Interface: Must include a ruggedized, 4-port optical connector breakout/fanout harness. The interface must utilize discrete connectors on the output end (e.g., standard low-loss FC/APC or equivalent) to allow operators to quickly connect, disconnect, and swap individual 50-foot sensing lines in the field.

• Environmental Integrity: Any custom connectorization, splicing, or mechanical enclosures provided as part of the fanout assembly must meet the same MIL-STD- 810 environmental requirements as the main interrogator unit.

CLIN0004: Engineering Support & Software Integration

• Multi-Fiber Array Design & Assembly Labor: Must include up to eight (8) hours of specialized engineering assembly and termination support to fabricate and calibrate the initial optical harness.

• Shape-Sensing Software: A fully functional software suite capable of real-time 2D/3D shape reconstruction, data logging, and raw telemetry export on standard Windows/Linux host computers.
