PROJECT DESCRIPITION; JUSTIFICATION; BONA FIDE NEED; GOALS, AND GENERAL OR SAMPLE ACTIVITIES TO
BE UNDERTAKEN:
APHL is continuing to develop technical innovations and initiatives to help strengthen the response effort and ease the burden on public health laboratories. APHL repurposed functionality on the AIMS platform typically used to send influenza data, and was able to quickly onboard laboratories for transmitting COVID-19 testing data directly to CDC. This effort is part of the APHL AIMS platform (for COVID ELR or CELR), which has been extended to collect and transmit COVID ELR from health departments to CDC.
APHL's technical assistance team modified the route to accept new data and to ensure consistent coding and messaging terminology/vocabulary APHL created messaging templates for sample data exchanges APHL worked directly with 55 laboratories and agencies to generate messages and successfully route to CDC within one month.
We are requesting response funding to support the continued operation of the APHL AIMS collection and reporting of COVID-19 line-level, deidentified lab data to CDC and HHS (CELR efforts). The prior year funding is not sufficient to sustain this program, including the respective ELR TA to support jurisdictional health departments. This support of the AIMS platform is critical to producing the national data picture and analysis to help detect and control the spread of coronavirus.
KEY ACTIVITIES OR DELIVERABLES:
Key activities -Maintenance, enhancements and operations of the COVID-19 ELR efforts within AIMS -Personnel to project manage the COVID-19 ELR operational efforts -Personnel to provide technical assistance for ELR submissions and exchange within the jurisdictions
Deliverables -Frequent data transmission from all jurisdictions to CDC -Weekly meetings with CDC Lab Reporting Working Group to coordinate TA to jurisdictions -Site-specific TA deliverables -Help desk and support functionality for reporting jurisdictions
