About this file
This is a specification document for the 2026 Yakima River Gap to Gap Project, a floodplain restoration initiative in Washington State involving the Washington State Department of Ecology and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency. The project encompasses comprehensive ecological and geomorphic restoration of the Yakima River floodplain between Selah Gap and Union Gap, including clearing and grubbing operations, side channel construction, engineered log jam installation, large woody material placement, native material nourishment berms, channel armoring, habitat island construction, and a pile-supported pre-cast reinforced concrete boardwalk across wetlands. Additional work includes culvert replacement to facilitate fish passage and other associated improvements. All work must conform to contract plans, contract provisions, and standard specifications established for the project.
The project is funded through two primary grant sources: the Washington State Department of Ecology's Floodplains by Design (FBD) program and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency's Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program. These funding mechanisms support the restoration of degraded ecological, geomorphic, and hydraulic processes within the designated project area.
