About this file

This is a detailed performance specification document (FAA-E-3000) from the FAA Navigation Programs that establishes requirements for LED steady burning light assemblies to replace incandescent lamps in the High Intensity Approach Lighting System with Sequenced Flashing Lights (ALSF-2).

The specification outlines comprehensive requirements for both elevated and semi-flush LED light assemblies, including physical, performance, and environmental specifications. Key requirements include: five brightness levels with specific candela outputs ranging from 77cd to 48,000cd, programmable heating elements for ice dissipation, EMI protection, operating temperature range of -40°C to +67.2°C, and compatibility with existing 20A/6.6A isolation transformers. The assemblies must have a Mean Time Between Failures of at least 30,000 hours and undergo extensive testing including photometric, electrical, environmental, and structural integrity tests. The elevated assemblies must weigh no more than 6 pounds and include aiming capabilities from 0° to 25° above horizontal, while semi-flush assemblies must weigh no more than 20 pounds and withstand aircraft loads up to 6,000 lbs of shear force.
