About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file addressing technical specifications for an access control system (ACS) expansion project involving the Hirsch badge system.

The project involves expanding an existing FICAM-compliant Hirsch badge system currently running VELOCITY VER 3.8.2 with the server located in Building 66048, Room 229. The expansion includes reconnecting seven existing readers from the current ACS panels located in the South Staircase and installing new readers with associated infrastructure. New ACS panels will be installed in Building 66048, Room 145 and potentially on the 2nd floor in Room 267. All new doors have been equipped with electronic door handles, and dedicated power is available within 20 feet of the panel locations. Two new scramble pad readers for read-in access with exit motion sensors will be surface mounted, while other readers have 2x4 electrical boxes and conduit rough-ins already in place. Ceiling tiles exist in the area and no additional conduit is required above ceilings. The Hirsch network is closed and restricted; existing password protection is in place with no additional cyber hardening required. Switch ports are available at the server location on VLAN. Minor training or orientation is needed for existing users to familiarize them with new reader programming, identification, and naming conventions, though the existing user base is already trained on the current system.
