About this file
This document is a Questions & Answers (Q&A) file for solicitation FA875125Q0148 dated 21 AUG 25, addressing technical specifications for polarization-maintaining (PM) cable assemblies. The Q&A focuses on two key technical clarifications: connector types and cable length requirements for specific line items. Specifically, the government seeks continuous factory-terminated PM980 fiber cable assemblies, 80-81 meters in length (approximately 262.4 to 265.7 ft), with FC/APC narrow key, axis-aligned connectors, using Corning PM980 fiber in 900 µm red Hytrel jacket. The government explicitly stated a preference for one continuous fiber without field splicing, and indicated that an updated List of Materials (LOM) has been posted to address initial vendor questions about connector specifications.

Questions & Answers 21 AUG 25
Question 1: Can you please clarify which of the connector types are correct please, as there are two different ones showing for each cable. (Line item 3, 4, 5) Also, what fiber count would you need for the cables?
Answer 1: Updated List of Materials (LOM) has been posted dated 21AUG25.
Question 2: Regarding Attachment No. 1 – List of Materials (LOM):
•Item: PM Cable – PM 980 fiber, FC/APC to FC/APC (narrow key), axis-aligned connectors;
Corning PM980 fiber in 900 µm red Hytrel jacket •Listed Length: 80–81 meters (Qty 4)
Given typical polarization-maintaining (PM) cable practices and performance considerations (PER over long runs), an 81-meter terminated PM 980 assembly is unusual. To ensure technical compliance and cost realism, could you please confirm:
1. Is 81 meters the intended finished assembly length for each cable, or was a decimal intended (e.g., 8.1 m or 0.81 m)?
2. If 81 m is correct, do you require continuous factory-terminated assemblies at that length, or would the Government accept:
-a shorter standard factory-terminated length with Government acceptance of field routing/splicing, or -bulk PM980 fiber (un-terminated) plus separate connectorization?
Answer 2: The intended length is 80 - 81 meters long (as in approx 262.4 ft to 265.7 ft).
Continuous factory terminated assembly vs field splicing vs bulk fiber and separate connectorization: We do not want the fiber to be field spliced together out of many smaller fibers. The fiber should be one continuous fiber
