About this file

This document is an Amended Request for Information (RFI) for a Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) targeting Ground/Maritime Search and Rescue operations. The US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is seeking a sUAS capable of providing Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) in environments where Combat Air Forces aircraft are denied access, specifically for personnel recovery missions in maritime settings.

The RFI details specific technical requirements for the sUAS, including key performance parameters (KPPs) and key system attributes (KSAs). Critical specifications include a maximum system weight of 50 lbs (threshold) or 40 lbs (objective), minimum 40-59 minutes of flight time with a 2kg payload, full autonomous operation without GPS, a single electro-optical and thermal imaging payload capable of detecting humans at 0.5-1 nautical miles, ability to carry and power a PRC-163 radio, obstacle avoidance capabilities, compatibility with specific communication antennas, and integration of M-Code GPS. The system must be transportable in a single backpack worn by one person, emphasizing portability and operational flexibility for rescue missions.

· 6.4.1 KPP now requires the capability of carrying a PRC-163 (T) and providing power to a PRC-163 (O).

Changes to KSA(s)

· 6.5.3 KSA now addresses frontal obstacle avoidance (T) and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance (O).

· 6.5.6 KSA has been redefined and now requires the ability to carry a Silvus SC4400E, Trellisware 950, and L/S Band high-gain directional antenna (T), and provide power to them (O).

· 6.5.9 KSA has been added and requires the EO/IR payload to include a NIR laser pointer to mark points of interest (T=O).

· 6.5.10 KSA has been added and requires M-Code GPS integrated on the sUAS (T=O).

Please thoroughly answer all questions regarding how the revised requirements are met.

6 System Requirements

6.1 System KPPs

6.1.6 KPP: When configured for at least 40 minutes of flight while meeting all sensor KPPs, the sUAS system (defined as the sUAS, all untethered flight components, and backpack/rucksack) shall not exceed 50 lbs in weight (T), 40 lbs (O).

What is the weight of the sUAS system as defined in 6.1.6 above?

6.1.7 KPP: When configured with a payload weighing at least 2 kilograms, the sUAS shall have a minimum of 40 minutes of flight time endurance (T) 59 minutes (O).

What was the payload type and weight and the flight time that was achieved when verifying that 6.1.7 is satisfied?

6.1.9 KPP: The sUAS system (defined as sUAS, Ground Control Station, base station, and all components required for untethered flight operations), shall be transportable in a contractor provided single backpack/rucksack worn by one person.

When packed with the sUAS system as defined above, what are the dimensions of the backpack/rucksack that satisfies 6.1.9?

6.2 sUAS KPPs

6.2.2 KPP: The sUAS system shall be capable of fully autonomous operation without GNSS (GNSS denied) by using solutions such as computer vision or terrain following visual navigation (T=O).

Which one or more of the following GPS (GNSS) denied navigation solutions does the sUAS employ, if any?

· INS

· VIO

· SLAM

· TERCOM

· Other (explain):

6.3 Sensor KPPs

6.3.1 KPP: The system shall have a single payload capable of both electro-optical (EO) and thermal (IR) viewing (EO/IR) (T=O).

Please provide the following information for each EO/IR payload that meets 6.3.1:
