About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for Solicitation No. FA8604-25-R-B019 related to the MMHS Storage Aid System at Key Field ANG Base in Mississippi. The Q&A addresses a specific technical question about plastic bin weight capacity and material specifications for the storage system. The key technical clarification is that the 375 lbs. per bin weight capacity is a performance specification to ensure product quality, not an expectation of actual loading, and polypropylene bins are not acceptable due to potential durability issues in outdoor and non-environmentally controlled storage environments.

Questions and Answers
Question 1.
Purchase Description 3.1.6 Plastic Bins calls for a weight capacity of 375 lbs. per bin and that Bins should interface with gravity flow racks on AF Drawing NKF307-01
Purchase Description 3.1.9 Gravity Flow Rack and Drawing NKF307-01 shows a system that has a weight capacity of 1,000 lbs. per level and a total unit capacity of 3000 lbs. Each Gravity Flow Rack can accommodate 27 bins if full loaded. IF the bins were to be fully loaded this would be in excess of 10,000 lbs.
Further, a fully loaded bin @ 375# would be almost impossible for a single person to lift.
Please advise on the capacity of the Plastic Bins specified in 3.1.6. Bins of this type are also available in Polypropylene. Please advise if this would be acceptable.
Answer:
The weight capacity is a performance spec to ensure the manufacturer of said bins are providing a quality product. This does not mean that the bins will be loaded to 375lbs. The total weight capacity will be posted on all racks to ensure compliance. Polypropylene would not be acceptable, since these bins could be handled roughly and are often time stored outside and in non-environmentally controlled buildings. Historically, polypropylene bins crack and age poorly under these conditions
