Question Set 3

07 November 2024

Question/Answer Response:

1. Cover PD section 3.4 Orientation discusses operator orientation to the system. Does this include actual operator training of the material handling equipment (MHE)? If so, is the orientation to familiarize the operators with the MHE or a complete training/certification for operation of the MHE?

A. The Contractor shall provide orientation training for each operator on the use of the vehicles provided. It is not intended to be a complete training/certification for operation of the vehicles.

2. For building 933, Appendix A section 3.3.1 states “Anchor bolts for both the rack and guiderail shall be cut and then ground to floor level or shall be punched down if possible. Any damage to surrounding concrete floor shall be patched to level/finish of existing floor.” However, it does not address the surface area below the platform which the mobile aisle sits on. Without being familiar with the condition of the concrete or the installation method, it’s difficult to determine how it is affixed to the concrete. If anything other than anchor bolts were used (like strong adhesive) for installation, there could be some unavoidable floor damage. If there is damage to the concrete/flooring, caused by anything other than the cutting/punching/grinding down anchors, will Contractor be liable for repairs?

A. Yes. The contractor shall repair to finish of existing floor.

3. Per Drawing # UVA 203A The drawing call outs a 6,000lb beam, is this calling for a 6,000 lb.

load per level/bay or 6,000 # per beam, translating to 12,000 lb.per level.

A: 6,000 lb per level.
