FA8604‐23‐R‐B009
Wright‐Patterson Air Force Base, OH Questions/Answers Set 1 Date 01 June 2023
Questions/Responses:
1. Is there a dock available at both buildings for deliveries or will a ground drop be required?
A ground drop will be required.
2. The wide span shelving in Building 30027 has a sec on that looks back to back with exis ng shelving. Normally row spacers are required, but they are not listed in the appendix. Will they be required?
They will not be required in this application.
3. Are capacity labels for each wide span beam level required? I did not see it in the cover or appendix for the widespan but its listed for the can lever to be provided for each arm.
Yes. Rack capacity labels are required on each beam, the Widespan Shelving PD has been updated to clarify this requirement.
4. The can lever shows the distance between uprights as 66” on the front view but 72” on the top view. Is just one sec on 66” or is this a typo?
It is 72” center to center. The Can lever Rack PD and AF Drawing LWR301‐01 30027 have been revised.
5. For the fencing around the mezzanine can you please clarify? The paragraph in the appendix makes it sound like you want the pilferable cage on the top of the mezzanine, “to form a pilferable area on top of the combined mezzanine structure”, but there is a gate shown with no visible way to access it as there are no stairs and it looks like it’s opening against a wall. Is the cage meant to go around the bo om of the mezzanine? If so, it also states it should go around the exis ng mezzanine and the new mezzanine but the drawing only shows it going up to the new mezzanine, not around it. (Please forgive my crude drawing a ached) Do you want it around the mezzanine as shown, or should it go straight across the exis ng mezzanine only?
The fencing should be located on top of the mezzanine and be located on the two sides of the existing mezzanine as shown in Attachment 13 ‐ Mezzanine Sketch. The other two sides are adjacent to walls. No top is required, the fencing is intended to be an extra layer of deterrent for pilferable items located on top of the mezzanine. The fencing should be located on the new additional as much as possible without interfering with the operation of the pivot gate. Pictures have been provided in Attachment 15 ‐ LWR301 Mezzanine Pictures to give a better idea of the existing mezzanine structure.

6. Should we assume that we will need to remove a sec on of handrail so the pivot gate func ons correctly or maybe an exis ng swing gate of some kind that needs to be removed?
Correct, a section of handrail will need to be removed from the existing mezzanine to allow for the addition with the pivot gate. No existing gate exists for the mezzanine. An existing cage structure located underneath/adjacent to the mezzanine may need to be slightly altered to allow for the passage of the new mezzanine columns to be installed. Pictures have been provided to give a better idea on the existing system in Attachment 15 – Mezzanine Pictures.
7. Is there a layout of where the exis ng equipment to be removed is? Is it in the same area as where the new equipment is being installed?
Yes. See Attachment 14 ‐ Existing Equipment for Removal with pictures of equipment that will need removed. The equipment in red will need removed.
8. For the equipment being removed it only states for it to be removed from the building. In the past some bases have wanted this equipment palle zed and brought it to other buildings on base or moved it themselves once demo’ ed, in other cases the contractor has had to remove it completely off base with a recycling company. This makes a difference in installa on price and whether a scrap dumpster is needed.
All equipment except for the 3 bays of pallet rack in Building 30027 can be removed completely off base. The 3 bays of pallet rack should be palletized so the customer can move it where they want.
9. Appendix D lists type C & D Overheads as 18”H but drawing 02 lists it as 31” in print and 18” on the actual drawing. Since Vidmar does not offer an 18” high overhead cabinet I am assuming this is a typo in the appendix and the drawing?
Due to fire suppression the Overhead Shelving height cannot exceed 18 +/‐ 1 in. AF Drawing LWR301‐02 20614 and Overhead Shelving Appendix D have been revised. If Vidmar cannot custom make 18” H Overhead Shelving units then we will accept other manufacturers as long as the Overhead Shelf matches the footprint of the existing modular cabinet.
