About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) response issued by the Department of the Air Force, Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in response to inquiries regarding solicitation FA8601-12-Q-0019. The Q&A addresses 19 questions related to a furniture installation project involving modular workstations and acoustic panels.

Key specifications and clarifications include: wall panels must be 84"H (7') +/- 3", not 85"H; tackable acoustic panels may be tile panels with tackable surfaces above the worksurface and non-tackable surfaces below; tackboards attached to panels are not acceptable; overhead cabinets require flipper doors that recess into or on top of the overhead; workstation panel configurations (U-shaped or L-shaped with return panels) and quantities are shown on drawing ID-2 Workstation Typicals and drawing ID-1 F20620 Furniture plan. The contractor is not responsible for disassembly and removal of existing furniture, which the government will complete. Regarding electrical and data/communications infrastructure, the contractor is responsible for making power connections, and a Certified Electrician must supply all labor and materials for hardwire connections. Electrical can be run from ceiling or floor; EMT conduit and Flex Conduit (FMC) are acceptable for plenum use, with Liquid Tight (LFMC) requiring plenum-rated type. Data/communications lines will come from wall-mounted boxes for workstations against walls, while the eight WS-2 workstations in the center of the space require power poles. Additional drawings showing existing electrical panel and junction box locations were provided.

SUBJECT: Response to Inquiries Regarding FA8601-12-Q-0019

QUESTIONS

Question 1: For the wall panels, are 85"H acceptable?

Response 1: No . I understand that there is a +/- 3" on the description, but market standards are around 84"(7') +/- 3". I believe the 80" reference that was used is without the base, so technically with the base it is around 83"-87"H as well.

Question 2: The tackable acoustic panels, can it be tile panels?

Response 2: Yes. This will make the necessary areas only to be tackable. Below the worksurface can be non tackable, but above it will be. This is more economical than a whole tackable panel.

Non tackable below the worksurface is not acceptable.

Question 3: Tackboards attached to the panel accepted?

Response 3: No

Question 4: In reference to the WS-1 workstations, with the 36” W metal flipper door overhead, do the doors need to be integrated into the acoustic panels

Response 4: The overhead cabinets shall have flipper doors as stated in the SOW. Flipper door are lifted and they recess back into the overhead or recess back on top of the overhead. Both methods ae acceptable.

Question 5: Should each workstation include three full panels forming a U-shape, or Two panels forming an L-shape with a short return panel near the desk corner?

Response 5: Refer to drawing ID-2 Workstation Typicals

Question 6: How many panel walls are required per workstation for: WS-1 (6×6 workstation) and WS-2 (6×8 workstation)?

Response 6: Refer to drawing ID-2 Workstation Typicals

Question 7: In the drawing, some workstations appear to have four panel sides (wall side, front, back, and a short return panel). Confirm whether any WS-1 workstations require four panels, specifically the WS-1 located in front of the Storage/Printer Area?

Response 7: Refer to drawing ID-2 Workstation Typicals & ID-1 F20620 Furniture plan and provide panels as shown

Question 8: Is disassembly and removal of existing furniture part of the effort?

Response 8: No, the government will complete any disassembly and removal

Question 9: Where can electrical connections be made?

Response 9: Electric can be run from the ceiling or through the floor

Question 10: Are offerors responsible to make electrical connections?

Response 10: Yes, the contractor is responsible for making the power connections

Question 11: Is the area under the raised floor a plenum air space?

Response 11: YES.

Question 12: Do they have any standards for wiring methods under the floor? Standard would be EMT conduit or liquid tight flexible conduit

Response 12: EMT and Flex Conduit (FMC) are both good for use in plenums. If they use Liquid Tight (LFMC) it should be the plenum rated type, which I believe is blue.

Question 13: What will be provided before the furniture install need completed, and what would be our responsibility for the power. Will we just need to connect into the junction box?

Response 13: The furniture contractor is responsible for providing a Certified Electrician to make the hardwire connections. The Electrician is responsible for supplying all labor and materials to make the hardwire connections.

Question 14: Will there be power for each workstation from the walls or floor? Or would that need to come from the panels

Response 14: Power is available from the walls and floor to make the connections

Question 15: Please confirm that data/comm lines can be run through the floor for the workstations/pods against the walls and thus a separate data only pole would not be needed from the ceiling to the top of the workstations

Response 15: The Data/Comm lines will come from boxes attached to the walls for these workstations

Question 16: Please confirm that data/comm lines need to be run through a data only pole from the ceiling to the top of the workstations for the 8-pack in the center of the space

Response 16: Yes, provide power poles for the (8) WS-2 workstations in the center of the room to run the comm

Question 17: Can you please provide a marked up drawing showing location of existing electric panel & existing junction boxes?

Response 17: Yes, additional drawings attached.

Question 18: Is contractor responsible for providing the electrician for hardwire workstation connections only?

Response 18: Yes, the furniture contractor is responsible for providing a Certified Electrician to make the hardwire connections. The Electrician is responsible for supplying all labor and materials to make the hardwire connections.

Question 19: Will end user be providing the additional electrical junction boxes & circuits to support the new number of workstations being installed ?

Response 19: The Electrician is responsible for supplying all labor and materials to make the hardwire connections
