About this file

This document provides questions and answers from a site visit related to a federal solicitation for a theatrical lighting systems upgrade at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The solicitation seeks bids to remove 12 lighting pods from each of two galleries and install new lighting systems. Work must take place Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm, though sections of galleries can be cordoned off. Existing man doors are 7'10" wide by 10' high and hangar doors are available occasionally. Common lifts previously used on site include Genie Z60/34, JLG450 and NiftyLift SP85 models. Lighting pods are approximately 40 feet high and can be rigged up to a maximum ceiling height of 80 feet, though only 110/120V power outlets are installed on site. Removed lighting pods and trussing will be palletized for the museum, while other material will be recycled. Bids are due by August 19, 2022 at 5:00 pm EST. Questions may be submitted throughout the solicitation period.

We currently use, or have used the following: Genie Z60/34, JLG450, NiftyLift SP85, Genie S80/S85, JLG800 series, JLG Ultra Series. Larger lifts have been used, but they typically have extensible axels that require removal of handrails and exhibits.

10) Is 80’ the highest point for potential rigging in each of the galleries? Yes, at peak of arch.

11) What is to be done with the lighting pods and their gear? Amendment will appear in the Statement of Work, lighting fixtures and truss to be palletized and given to NMUSAF---all other pods, wiring/electric boxes, and rigging to be recycled/disposed of by contractor.
