Repair/Replace Steam Stanchions Area B – ZHTV090018.
Project #090017 Vendor RFIs and Government Responses
20 July 2015
1) Drawing Sheet S-101, S-102, S-103, S104, and S-105. Drawing Note B. “Concrete Repair along the tunnel walls, ceiling, and slab required…Repairs Shall Include…Patch for spalling concrete (detail3B/3C on S-301) ” Is this contractor to assume 100% of walls, ceiling, and slab are spalling and need patched? If not, please provide a Square Foot quantity allowance for both detail 3B/S-301 and 3C/S-301 concrete patching for the entire tunnel.
Gov’t Response: No. Note the photos/descriptions. Contractor must determine their best estimate based on the drawings and specifications. See Addendum 03 for drawings with original high resolution color photos.
2) Drawing Sheet S-101, S-102, S-103, S104, and S-105. Drawing Note B. “Concrete Repair along the tunnel walls, ceiling, and slab required…Repairs Shall Include…Injection of cracks along concrete for water intrusion (detail 3A/S-301).” Is this contractor to assume 100% of walls, ceiling, and slab need repaired? If not, please provide a Linear Foot quantity allowance for detail 3A/S-301 Concrete Crack Injection Repair.
Gov’t Response: No. Note the photos/descriptions. Contractor must determine their best estimate based on the drawings and specifications. See Addendum 03 for drawings with original high resolution color photos.
3) Drawing Sheet S-101, S-102, S-103, S104, and S-105. Drawing Note B. “Concrete Repair along the tunnel walls, ceiling, and slab required…Repairs Shall Include…Internal waterproofing the face of the tunnel (detail 2/S-301).” Is this contractor to assume 100% of walls, ceiling, and slab need repaired? If not, please provide a Square Foot quantity allowance for detail 2/S-301 Internal waterproofing the face of the tunnel. The location chart on S-101, S- 102, S-103, S104, and S-105 gives a general location but does not allow this contractor to develop an accurate quantity takeoff as the drawing is not to scale and therefore no accurate quantities can be taken.
Gov’t Response: No. Note B, within the drawing notes on the Location Plans, gives verbiage on the internal waterproofing. Note refers to chart on those respected sheets for locations that require additional internal waterproofing beyond the typical 1'-0" base application. The typical 1'-0" base application is shown in detail 2/S-301, 1'-0" vertical up the wall and horizontal on base slab that shall be applied along the length of each tunnel. For the Location Plans-locations “near” a particular stanchion, water intrusion shall be identified and internal waterproofing application shall be applied to ceilings and walls per detail 2/S-301, 5 feet in each direction from where the water intrusion is evident. For other locations listed “between” stanchions, the in-between stanchion distance shall be assumed to be 11 feet and internal waterproofing shall be applied to walls and ceiling per detail 2/S-301.
4) Drawing Sheet S-101, S-102, S-103, S104, and S-105. External/Internal Waterproofing Application locations. This chart gives a general location for External Waterproofing but does not provide square feet of External waterproofing needed because the drawing is not to scale and therefore no accurate quantities can be taken. Please scale the drawing to allow this contractor to find the linear footage, (which will then give us the square feet of this required application) or provide a quantity allowance for the external waterproofing.
Gov’t Response: Note that external waterproofing will take place wherever there will be tunnel concrete replacement. For these, approximate lengths are given in Location Plans and dimensions of walls are given in 1/S-301.
5) THE PLAN DETAILS INDICATE A CAST-IN -PLACE CEILING REPLACEMENT
OF TUNNEL CEILING AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. WOULD PRECAST
CEILING PANELS MANUFACTURED TO CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS BE
CONSIDERED AS AN OPTIONAL INSTALLATION METHOD IF PLACED UPON A
PROPERLY PREPARED EXISTING WALL; ALONG WITH PROPER DOWELS
AND GROUTING?
Gov’t Response: Yes
6) On the Tunnel Concrete Replacement charts shown on Drawings S-101, S-104, and S- 105, the tunnel surface to be replaced is “ceiling / wall”. Does this mean, that in addition to the lid of the tunnel, that both walls are to be replaced, or just one wall?
Gov’t Response: There are (2) locations where detail 2B/S-303 are applicable in which both walls and the ceiling shall be replaced:
1) Bull Head Tunnel, between stanchions 28 & 36
2) 5th Street Tunnel, between stanchions 78 & 83
