Questions from Industry regarding Combined Synopsis/Solicitation No. FA8601-13-T-0127
1. What sensitivity is the spectrometer to have?
We would like to be able to measure signals to as low as 10 microwatts plus or minus 4% for all frequencies between 210 and 400nm.
2. Who will supply the LEDs? If they are supplied by others what are the specifications for them?
In particular, the socket that must be used.
We will utilize UV LEDs available from commercial suppliers. The socket should support either a two-pronged LED (anode and cathode) connection or a three-pronged LED (anode, cathode and additional ground).
3. What part of the submersed sphere will be in contact with the water? Is the intent to have water inside the sphere?
It is intended that we will either perform air measurements or water measurements for the
LEDs. For the water measurements, the inside of the sphere should be evacuated of all air and be completely filled with water.
4. Can the sphere’s calibration port also be used as the LED port?
If the design of the sphere is such that we can perform a NIST traceable calibration of the device using a port and use the same port to accurately measure the integrated light from the LED such that the measurement of the LED is not contaminated from specular illumination from the LED, then the use of a common port is permissible.
5. Are conceptual (or other) drawings available that can clarify the requirements?
We have not generated drawings. We do not require a specific physical layout. We require that we are able to accurately measure the energy output of UV LEDs in air or when immersed in water and at least the in-air measurements should be MIST traceable.
6. What must the spectrometer be able to be used underwater if it is separated from the underwater sphere by a fiber optic bundle?
There is no need for the spectrometer to be placed underwater. The system must be capable of being calibrated while any sphere is underwater and the system must permit the output of the
LED to be measured while underwater.
