1. Is there a required width dimension for the stairway treads?
Government Response: The required width for stairways is 36 inches.
2. Ref. Q&A's dated 18 Jan 2012, Answer to Question #11 - does the 25% increase apply to the allowable weight limits?
Government Response: The amount of allowable weight increase will have to be discussed with the AF users. The 25% was originally intended for the footprint dimensions but it is also understood that if they increase then the weight will need to increase some also. All weight increase will be verified through the Lead Command.
3. REF PD 3.8.6.4, if the means of accessing the platform (stairway) does not incline greater than 55 degrees at any platform height, the clause would indicate that a gate is not required. Can the government comment on this interpretation?
Government Response: The interpretation is correct. Stairway designs do not require gates unless they exceed 60 degrees.
