#8 Questions:
1. PWS Section 1.1 states that ."New protective tiles are to be the same size as the original to allow the new armor tiles to be assembled and installed in the same manner as the original armor." Does this statement require that the new protective tiles be installed in the existing ballistic covers and hook / loop system or will new ballistic covers be required?
2. Does the 50% weight reduction requirement, as stated in PWS Section 1.1, apply to the weight of the ballistic covers plus protective tiles or only the protective tiles?
3. We understand that the current Armor Mat Assemblies make use of a hook and loop attachment method and that this arrangement is protected by certain US patents. If required (reference Question #1) will subsequent use of the existing ballistic covers infringe on any of the applicable patents?
4. If the existing hook / loop attachment method is not required will permanent aircraft modification be allowed in order to accommodate attachment of the armor materials?
#8 Answers:
1. Yes, new covers and installation system will be required.
2. The tiles now weigh 8lbs. per square foot. The requirement is for the tiles to weigh at the most 50% of the 8 lbs. per square foot.
3. Existing covers and attachment system will not be used.
4. This will be a permanent modification, but the armor will be removable. The system to be used will be similar to the existing system. The new armor kit will not be permanently installed on the doors, as they will be required to be removed when not needed.
