About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for cadmium plating services required to support USAF Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system sustainment. The Air Force requires brush cadmium plating on mating metal surfaces of motor generators located at Launch Facilities (LF) and Launch Control Centers (LCC) as part of depot-level repair and overhaul operations. The cadmium plating process serves dual critical functions: corrosion protection of metal surfaces and provision of high electrical conductivity necessary to meet nuclear hardness bonding and grounding requirements specific to Minuteman weapon system motor generators. Current annual requirements involve overhaul of at least 11 LF motor generators and 4 LCC motor generators per year.
The work requires contractor capability to perform specific brush cadmium plating processes using designated equipment and chemicals as established by the MMIII System Program Office. Contractors must adhere to current specifications without utilizing alternative cadmium plating processes or substitute plating materials, as determined by MMIII SPO OSS&E Authority Mr. Allen Hancey. This is a specialized repair capability within the broader motor generator depot maintenance and overhaul program supporting ongoing ICBM operational readiness and nuclear weapons system reliability. The solicitation is being issued by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center.
