The contractor shall furnish the supplies and services necessary to maintain, repair, and service all electric motors, electric motor apparatus, and assemblies listed in Appendix B. Maintenance and repairs shall be on an as-needed basis using mechanics experienced in repairing the identified types of motors.

2. BASIC SERVICES

This section provides direction for examination, testing, reconditioning, rewinding, and otherwise repairing electric motors and apparatus. All work under the scope of this PWS required to produce a serviceable end item shall be accomplished even though this work specification or government technical orders may neither specifically identify nor describe each required repair operation nor furnish all necessary instructions and data. In the absence of specific work requirements, commercial practices shall be followed.

Such methods may include steam and/or pressure wash, using approved detergents, fluid or alcohol to clean and decarbonize as required. The contractor may use cleaning processes and materials which are not covered under the applicable Occupational Health TO or COTS manuals when required by local standards or conditions and as approved by the

Equipment Engineer.

2.1.4 Following the disassembly and inspection, the contractor shall provide a quote to the Equipment Engineer for the services necessary to return the asset to serviceable condition. The quote shall utilize pricing from the agreement’s approved price list. No further action shall be taken until the Equipment Engineer has approved further repairs.

2.1.5 Motor repairs are not to exceed 70% of comparable new motor cost unless approved by the Equipment Engineer.

2.1.6 If the Equipment Engineer determines that further repair actions shall not be taken, the contractor shall assembly the unit unless otherwise dictated by the

Equipment Engineer.

2.2.2 Rewind – Rewind is defined as safely removing the old windings in a manner that does not lessen the efficiency of the laminations and insulation between the laminations, cleaning the stator, replacing wire coils, insulating, varnish sealing, and changing all bearings and seals prior to performing quality testing.

2.2.2.1 The contractor shall use Vacuum Pressure Impregnation when rewinding motors 100 HP or larger. The contractor shall follow Green Motor

Initiative for all rewinds.
