About this file

This document contains questions and answers related to solicitation number FA8132-20-Q-0005 for aluminum box furnaces. The solicitation is seeking furnaces with working heights between 30 to 55 inches, removable stainless steel shelves spaced 2 and 12 inches from the bottom, and type N thermocouples for temperature control and uniformity monitoring. A separate resident SAT sensor is required that meets the specifications of AMS2750E, utilizing a type S thermocouple. The resident SAT and its reader must have a calibration accuracy of +/- 1 degree Fahrenheit and be usable for 1 or more years. Type N expendable thermocouple wire is also requested. No quench tank or progress payments are included. The payment will be processed through WAWF upon delivery and acceptance of the items.

Questions and Answers for FA8132‐20‐Q‐0005; Aluminum Box Furnaces

Reminder:

Shipping will be FOB Destination only. Please work the cost of shipping into your items. A separate charge for shipping is not allowed.

You can also find terms, conditions, provision, and clauses at https://www.acquisition.gov CLIN 0001 Section p) Built to standard working height or on a stand to bring oven up to this height.

1. Is there a min and max working height that you’d like this oven to be within? Say 40” min to 55” max?

The working height should be between 30” minimum and 55” maximum. I’m thinking it would make sense to have the bottoms of the shelves at about 36” and 46” from the floor.

CLIN 0001 Section t) Removable workload rack consisting of two flat shelves with minimum dimensions of

22”wide x 46”deep, spaced minimum 2” and 12” from the bottom of the chamber.

2. Is there a preferred shelving material or would stainless steel be acceptable?

Stainless steel would be acceptable.

3. CLIN 0001, Item J ‐ “Over‐temp to be functional resident SAT sensor per AMS2750E.”

If type N thermocouples are used for process monitoring and air temperature control, then per

AMS2750E, paragraph 3.4.5.2.1.2 and FIGURE 5, “resident SAT sensor type must be different from that of the sensor being tested”, and for type N control thermocouples a type S (or B or R) thermocouple must be use for the SAT. Per TABLE 3, the SAT digital instrument must have a calibration accuracy of +/‐

1°F. Per Table 3, Notes, #8 – “Over‐temperature instruments used solely for furnace over temperature protection do not need to be calibrated.”

A. Is it true that the high limit thermocouple will be type S?

It is acceptable for the high limit thermocouple to be type S.

i. If the temperature control thermocouples were type K then the use of type N SAT would be in compliance with AMS2750E.

This seems to be correct.

ii. Is the thermocouple to the temperature controller type K or type N?

The thought was for the temperature controller and uniformity T/Cs to be type N.

B. Is it true the high limit controller will have a high accuracy instrument which is non‐typical for this function?

Our understanding is that this would be the case if the high limit is also used for SAT.

i. Can it be substituted to provide a standard high limit controller with type N (or K) thermocouple, and a type S (or N) resident SAT with a separate, panel mounted, high accuracy reader display?

A separate resident SAT sensor would be acceptable provided it meets the requirements of AMS2750E that were previously mentioned.

C. Resident type N non‐expendable thermocouples are used for 3 months then recalibrated or more typically discarded. Type S resident SAT are used for 6 months and can be recalibrated / reused indefinitely.

i. Is there a time period quantity for the provided SAT thermocouples such as 1 or more year(s) desired? If so – please clarify.

1 or more year(s) is desired.

4. CLIN 0003, THERMOCOUPLE WIRE – Is this to be type N expendable wire or type K?

Type N.

5. No quench tank is needed / requested. Please confirm.

No quench tank is requested.

6. If I win this purchase order, can I we get advanced or progress payments?

No. Payment will be made through Wide Area WorkFlow (WAWF), which is the standard way we do business (see DFARS Clause 252.232‐7006). After the items are delivered and accepted, the successful contractor will submit the invoice in WAWF. The Government will process it and the Contractor will receive payment via electronic funds transfer.
