About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file related to a dust collection system preseparator project. The questions address technical specifications and system details needed to prepare an accurate quote for equipment integration with an existing dust collector system installed over 10 years ago.

Key technical inquiries include design pressure and airflow speed requirements within the vacuum system, CFM and pressure ratings of the existing dust collector, motor horsepower specifications, and inlet ducting diameter specifications. The customer clarified that no explosion prevention equipment is required and does not need interlock level gauges. Regarding system piping, the inquiry noted apparent 8-inch to 6-inch diameter reduction before the preseparator inlet, though confirmation was needed due to measurement constraints during the site visit. The customer indicated that original system documentation was lost over time and invited bidders to schedule site visits for accurate assessment. Materials being collected include paper, screws/bolts, and sanding dust comprising graphite, fiberglass, and aluminum. The document includes a blower/exhauster design datasheet from HSI showing specifications for a 1250 CFM system at 10 HG serving Air Cleaning Technologies, along with photographs of the existing equipment including a 60 HP Crown Triton motor, General Electric control panels, a Proximity paddle level switch, and various angles of the facility installation showing the dust collector, preseparator, and collection bins.

Text version

• For the project being considered for quotes, what is the design pressure and design speed of the air flow inside the vacuum system?

o We understand the CFM requirement, but that doesn't give us what we actually require to size the preseparator.

o

• What is the CFM and Pressure ratings of the existing dust collector?

o

• Is there any explosion prevention equipment we need to include on our proposal? -> no

• The main pipe appeared to be 8" diameter and it reduced down to 6" before it gets to the preseparator. Can you kindly verify diameter sizing whether in metric or imperial, please?

o There wasn't a tall enough ladder when I was onsite to get it taken care of.

-> We currently do not have any drawings or documentation for the existing system, as they were lost over time since the installation more than 10 years ago.

• What is the HP motor on the existing dust collector this unit is pairing with?

• What diameter ducting is connected to the inlet of the existing dust collector? ->-> We currently do not have any drawings or documentation for the existing system, as they were lost over time since the installation more than 10 years ago. You are welcome to schedule a site visit to review the system and prepare an accurate quote

• What material is the dust collector collecting? ->paper, screw/bolts, sanding dust of graphite, fiberglass, aluminum

• Will there need to be interlock level gages? -> no
