Question and Answer

FA8125-21-R-0002

Question/Comment:

I’ve reviewed the RFQ and would like to point out that I don’t see any standards called out for evaluation of the CNC machines. The Ball bar is a component of the evaluation, but is very limited for the analysis, the ball bar is a good tool for the dynamic performance, torque reversal errors, Circularity and scale mismatch. For the other machine errors, Position, squareness, straightness, pitch, roll and yaw we have other metrology equipment that is more specific to each axis so you can define these errors and either through mechanical adjustment or the implementation of electronic calibration tables, the machine can be brought back to original or better than OEM specifications. We also use dedicated metrology equipment for the rotary position and wobble analysis, I only see backlash being checked in the RFQ.

The standards used, are ASME 5.54 and ISO 230

Government Response:

The Government does not feel that the specifications defined in these standards exceed the minimum requirements defined by the Government at this location. Each prospective offeror is encouraged to use the methods, processes, and standards developed and in place for their workflows. The Government does not currently see a need to change the requirement and feels increasing the requirement to incorporate these standards eliminate competition and is not necessary for the work we are asking to be performed.
