3.05 PIPE JOINT CONSTRUCTION

A. Ream ends of pipes and tubes and remove burrs. Bevel plain ends of steel pipe.

B. Remove scale, slag, dirt, and debris from inside and outside of pipe and fittings before assembly.

C. Soldered Joints: Apply ASTM B 813, water-flushable flux, unless otherwise indicated, to tube end. Construct joints according to ASTM B 828 or CDA's "Copper Tube Handbook," using lead-free solder alloy complying with ASTM B 32.

D. Brazed Joints: Construct joints according to AWS's "Brazing Handbook," "Pipe and Tube" Chapter, using copper-phosphorus brazing filler metal complying with AWS A5.8/A5.8M.

E. Threaded Joints: Thread pipe with tapered pipe threads according to ASME B1.20.1. Cut threads full and clean using sharp dies. Ream threaded pipe ends to remove burrs and restore full ID. Join pipe fittings and valves as follows:

1. Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to external pipe threads unless dry seal threading is specified.

2. Damaged Threads: Do not use pipe or pipe fittings with threads that are corroded or damaged. Do not use pipe sections that have cracked or open welds.

F. Flanged Joints: Select appropriate gasket material, size, type, and thickness for service application. Install gasket concentrically positioned. Use suitable lubricants on bolt threads.

G. Plastic Piping Solvent-Cemented Joints: Clean and dry joining surfaces. Join pipe and fittings according to the following:

1. Comply with ASTM F 402 for safe-handling practice of cleaners, primers, and solvent cements.

2. PVC Pressure Piping: Join ASTM D 1785 schedule number, PVC pipe and PVC socket fittings according to ASTM D 2672. Join other-than-schedule number PVC pipe and socket fittings according to ASTM D 2855.

3. PVC Nonpressure Piping: Join according to ASTM D 2855.

H. Grooved Joints: Assemble joints with coupling and gasket, lubricant, and bolts. Cut or roll grooves in ends of pipe based on pipe and coupling manufacturer's written instructions for pipe wall thickness. Use grooved-end fittings and rigid, grooved-end-pipe couplings.

I. Mechanically Formed, Copper-Tube-Outlet Joints: Use manufacturer-recommended tool and procedure, and brazed joints.

3.06 CHEMICAL TREATMENT

A. Fill system with fresh water and add liquid alkaline compound with emulsifying agents and detergents to remove grease and petroleum products from piping. Circulate solution for a minimum of 24 hours, drain, clean strainer screens, and refill with fresh water.

B. Add initial chemical treatment and maintain water quality for the first year of operation.

1. Please clarify who the fire alarm system is manufactured by, it is not Siemens.

NOTIFIER

2. Also, regarding the email from April 17, 2014.... On the drawings, they reference a base bid and an alternate bid. However, on the bid form, there are three bids required.

The solicitation page 3 (1442) calls for 3 items to be priced:

1 and 2 refer to the first floor and 3 refers to basement demo.

The specs page 11 (1.05) contract method A 1 & 2 does not match line items 1 and 2 - relates to first floor and exterior as 1B.

We need this clarified ASAP for our subs and quotes are being sent in differently!!!

SEE EXCERPTS FROM SPEC AND BID SHEDULE BELOW, 0003 IS ALTERNATE, 0001 IS CONVERT, OOO2 IS RENOVATE

0001 Convert (NAF) – Dining Hall 1 $ ______ $ _______

0002 Base Bid Renovate Dining Hall 1 $_______ $_________

0003 Option, Include Basement Demolition, Office Construction 1 $ ______ $ ________

From Spec 01010, Section 1.05CONTRACT METHOD

B.The bid shall have two constituent parts consisting of Convert and Renovate, that when totaled become the single lump sum proposal. The Convert and Renovate prices for the Base Bid Work scope will be independent of the Convert and Renovate prices for the Add Alternate Work scope. Identify each part on the appropriate line of the Bid Form for the Base Bid Work and for the Add Alternate Work.

Refer to “Summary of Work Section 01 01 00-2”.

Convert Dining Room to CAC B213 (NAF) states to demolish rooms 107, 108, 109, and 110 area and perform work as listed. Those rooms are where the proposed restrooms are scheduled.

Are the rooms flip-flopped for JLSS 11-0013 A with JLSS 11-0013 B? If so, would room 107 need to be added to 102, 103, 104, 105, 106 under JLSS 11-0013 A to accommodate bar?

WE DON'T UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION. PLEASE REFER QUESTIONS TO SPECIFIC DRAWINGS (NUMBER AND SECTION) OR SPEC SECTIONS.

Last question. JLSS 11-0013 A item #3 says to construct bar storage rooms. Only one storage room (A-107) is shown on plans. Is this what is referenced in this note?

If this was already addressed in addendum, I missed it. Sorry.

JUST ONE STORAGE ROOM.

Siemens is the building control contractor, who is the contact person and local phone number? I can’t seem to find a local number on the web…

CAN'T PROVIDE CONTACT INFO.

Lochinvar Crest boilers are specified but they will not fit through the door openings, even if the doors are removed, to the basement. Bradford White (PA/USA Made) Brute Magnum boilers meet or exceed the specification and will fit through the opening to the basement and will fit on the existing concrete pad without modifications. Model # BRHHV2400. In addition, they are 40% less expensive than the Lochinvar Crest.

Please get back to me soon, the Lochinvar boiler issues needs to be resolved. Even if we take the unit completely apart, we may void the warranty trying to get it into that space. In addition, the cost of modifying the wall openings and increasing the pads size and the labor seems cost prohibitive.

SPEC SAYS LOCHNIVAR OR EQUAL. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MEANS AND METHODS OF INSTALLATION.
