FA6675-25-Q-0008 F-35 Fixed Racks RFI Q&A
Q1: Drawings show the length, height, of Fixed Racks (192" and 180") as well as the cart, however further specification is requested. Please clarify the material specifications.
Q1a: What is the material grade?
A1a: Any grade that meets the weight capacity requirements. We will place a minimum total weight of 1500lbs and a maximum weight of 3200lbs on each individual fixed rack (192” and 180”). Racks will be indoors 100% of the time.
Q1b: What is the material thickness for plates, vertical supports, braces and gussets?
A1b: Any thickness that meets the weight capacity requirements. We will place a minimum total weight of 1500lbs and a maximum weight of 3200lbs on each individual fixed rack (192” and 180”). Racks will be indoors 100% of the time.
Please provide a full dimensional breakdown for each component on Q2-Q6 below Q2: Base plates and top plates, gusset size and placement, hole locations and diameters?
A2: Hole locations placed on inboard side of base plates with a ½” hole diameter. Top plates hole locations and diameter is whatever meets the need to secure the rubber sheeting, using bolts mounted below flush, if not able to use below flush mounting, use adhesive.
Q3: Fastener and hole details - If applicable what is the specified bolt size, type, and grade?
A3: Whatever meets the capacity and usage requirements.
Q4. Should the cart have threaded casters or bolted casters?
A4: Bolted casters, Tronair K-2996
Q5: Assembly and fabrication - Should stands be fabricated as a single unit or in assembled sections?
A5: Single unit
Q6: Should rubber sheeting and strips be applied using bolts, adhesive, or other?
A6: Whatever method affords the best security of sheeting. There can be no protrusion from sheeting surface. Prefer bolts, as long as able to below flush mount, if not adhesive. Cannot have any protrusion above sheet surface.
Q7: Are you able to provide a parts list with material and hardware specifications?
A7: The government is unable to provide.
Q8: Are there any specifications for Anchor Plates? If not (a) are there any requirements for plate thickness? (b) Is there a required hole size for anchor bolts?
A8: Hole size diameter ½”. Customer will provide anchor bolts and mount stands in place, outside of vendor capacity. We do not require stands to be mounted by vendor. We can provide a forklift to off load racks/cart from delivery vehicle, once vehicle is on-site.
Q9: The drawing does not reference any of the tubing sizes on any of the racks. From the drawings, we can determine the outside dimension but not the wall thickness or the grade aluminum. What are the requirements, if any, for: (a) Wall Thickness? (b) Outer Dimensions? (c) Specific Aluminum Alloy?
A9: We will place a minimum total weight of 1500lbs and a maximum weight of 3200lbs on each individual fixed rack (192” and 180”). Racks will be indoors 100% of the time. Whatever wall thickness, outer dimension, aluminum alloy that meets capacity requirements.
Q10: As to the backer plate for the Rubber Tread Sheet, is there a required thickness?
A10: Backer plate needs to be able to provide support to allow placement of 150lbs at any given location across the width of each fixed rack.
Q11: Is there a preferred mounting for the rubber sheets? Would an acceptable method be flush mount bolts threaded into the bottom plate?
A11: There is not a preferred mounting of the rubber sheets. Flush mount would not be acceptable. Below flush mount would be acceptable, if not, use adhesive.
Q12: Regarding the tubing from which all of the racks are made, the called design will result in some of the joints having open ends exposing the inside of the tubes. Are these exposed ends of the tubes required to be capped off? This is nothing structural; it is more for aesthetics.
A12: Exposed ends are required to be capped.
Q13: Do the drawings require that the frames be bolted together? Can the frames be welded instead?
A13: Prefer frames to be welded. Again, we can provide a forklift to offload racks, once delivery vehicle is on-site.
Q14: The drawings provide necessary details for accurate fabrication. More details and dimensions on the plates, connections, and hardware across all three assemblies would be helpful to include the following:
- Material sizes and grades
- Connection specifications across all three drawings (for aluminum to aluminum and the rubber sheets or strips)
- Plate dimensions
- Hole locations
- Caster part number or specifications for the mobile cart
A14:
- Material sizes and grades: Whatever meets our capacity requirements.
- Connection specifications across all three drawings (for aluminum to aluminum and the rubber sheets or strips): Welded (aluminum to aluminum), below flush bolt mounting rubber sheets, if not, use adhesive.
- Plate dimensions: Whatever meets our capacity requirements. 0.25” thickness estimate.
- Hole locations: Hole locations for rubber sheeting at any interval that allows no movement or rubber sheeting when loading and off-loading individual pieces of equipment weighing upwards of 150 lbs.
- Caster part number or specifications for the mobile cart. Tronair K-2996
Q15: On the drawings that are submitted with the PE Stamp, are the calculation packs (supporting calculations that the engineer used to make the determination it satisfies all requirements) required as well, or is the PE Stamp enough?
A15: PE Stamp is enough if engineer calculations meet or exceed capacity requirements.
F35 Fixed Rack - 192" Long IAW Attachment 1 –Drawings 5 EA Q16: Please confirm the structural members are 4 x 2 or 4 x 4 aluminum tube.
A16: TBD by vendor engineer. No preference of 4 x 2 or 4 x 4, if capacity requirements are met.

Q18: Please confirm that the support legs are welded to the frame structure or if they are bolted connections.
A18: Welded
Q19: Please confirm if the weight listed for the stand has an allowable tolerance.
A19: +-10%
Q20: Please confirm if there is material/structural support/ panel under the rubber pa A20: Yes, there needs to be a support panel under the rubber pad to allow us to place individual pieces of equipment up to 150 lbs. whose weight isn’t entirely supported by the end rails and the entire 150 lbs. could be supported by the support panel at any given place on the racks.
