1.6.5 Single Source

Reference Q3:

To our knowledge, there are no vertically integrated vendors that could feasibly manufacture / produce the raw steel and then fabricate all primary steel, secondary steel, structural framing members and fasteners / accessories as the spec section above is requiring.

PROPOSED SOLUTION (If applicable):

We propose to source materials via the following breakdown as is in-line with the standards of other flightline work we have performed in the past:

Supplier 1) Purchase the raw steel from a U.S. Steel Mill and then self perform the fabrication in our AISC certified shop the Primary framework, (columns, rafters, and bracing

Supplier 2) Secondary Steel, metal roofing, clips, closures, accessories

Supplier 3) Structural bolts, stainless steel fasteners, mastic, caulking, closures.

All raw materials and components will be domestic products and the structural building system will be warranted.

A = Government agrees proposed solution is acceptable

We request that the government reconsider the requirement to paint secondary framing. Secondary framing typically comes in a G90 galvanized finish from the supplier, and while it is possible to paint over with a color matched coat, this requires a lengthier, more complex, expensive process. The painted finish on the secondary often arrives at site damaged, scratched, etc. requiring additional field labor for touch-up paint activities.

Please advise if a galvanized finish is acceptable, as a standard G90 finish has a longer life span and is not subject to the pitfalls of the alternative color matched painted finish.

A = Proposed solution is acceptable

Please address if bird netting is acceptable in lieu of bird spikes. The benefit to the netting is it provides 100% coverage to the underneath of the structure preferred anti-perching device would be bird spikes, please advise if this is acceptable.

A = Bird netting is NOT acceptable for this project

Request to utilize IMC in lieu of GRC as per NFPA 70 in both Class 1 (Div-1 and Div-2) locations.

Accept IMC in lieu of GRC as this meets the NFPA 70 code and the government would recognize a substantial savings in cost and time to install

A = As per previously submitted RFI# 18, GRS Conduit will be used where specified on the drawings and in the specifications.
