Repair Aircraft Parking Apron
1. QUESTION: The plans show removal of the existing taxi striping at the West apron entrance that will be replaced at the completion of the project. The plans do not show any striping removal/ replacement at the East side of the construction area, but project history has included the removal/ replacement of all the taxi striping/ lead-in lines. Should the removal/ replacement of the striping at the East entry into the apron be included in this pricing?
RESPONSE: The lines leading into the east side of the free zone will NOT have to be removed for construction. Other than the far west taxiway lead-in lines being removed, the only other striping to be replaced is the areas damaged in the construction process.
2. QUESTION: Can you provide a Length Measurement of the New Trench Drain that is to be installed in front of Building 821?
RESPONSE: The new trench drain is approximately 154'.
3. QUESTION: Can recycled concrete & bit materials be used for aggregate base below pavements?
RESPONSE: No
4. QUESTION: Can we salvage and reuse existing aggregate base materials?
RESPONSE: No
5. QUESTION: I was reviewing the parking apron plans and noticed that the thickness of the existing concrete for the majority of the removal is listed under 12" thick. History of everything else that has been removed is 8" concrete, 2" asphalt and 6" concrete. If we bid this per plans and it turns out the thickness is actually 16", will there be a change order for the additional concrete removal?
RESPONSE: The thicknesses shown are the drawings are based on pavement core samples that were taken during a 2008 Pavement Condition Index survey of the entire parking apron.
Therefore, the contractors should bid on the thicknesses indicated on the drawings.

6. QUESTION: Will recycled material be allowed?
RESPONSE: In reference to use of recycled materials, we are presuming the contractors are asking if recycled material can be used for the new aggregate base course that is placed before the new concrete pavement is constructed. The answer is "no." Although the Air Force promotes the recycling of all materials, e.g. old concrete pavement, old asphalt pavement, etc.;
this particular project needs to utilize "new", un-recycled material for the new aggregate base course.
