Frequently Asked Questions (Answers provided by requesting activity)
Do you want to purchase a hydraulic press with elastomeric forming pad integrated to the ram plate?
There are multiple configurations of this type of machine. For instance, one machine located at another base (8+ years ago) had a fluid filled bladder that pressed down on the parts, but was not equipped with any cylinders under the base of the machine. The forming blocks being used just sat on a stationary bottom platform. However, their new machine utilizes a stationary upper elastomeric forming pad and the table is lifted upward with a pair of hydraulic cylinders to push the workpiece into the forming pad. The number of different configurations of these types of machines is probably pretty vast.
They do not want to purchase a specific style. A better way of addressing their requirements would be to show you some parts they would expect the machine to be able to purchase.
For thinner parts (0.032"-0.062") being formed from 2024-O or 7075-O (see Examples 1 + 2), we would expect the machine to typically be able to form these parts with a single forming block. For thicker parts (0.062"-0.125") made from the same material types, a two-piece former set would typically be required (see Example 3). If the machine can produce these types of parts, it will meet our requirements.
