Interested Party Question
A question on Minimum Frequency Standards for cleaning. In the original Appendix 11a - Room Listing, there is a column J entitled, 'Current Cleaning Schedule, AM shift 5am - 4pm, PM shift 4pm -
11.30pm'. In this column information is given against the Various Zones 1 - 12 such as AM, PM, AM & PM with 24 hour on call.
The Minimum Frequency Standards at Appendix 111 also give AM/PM time frames against various Zones, however on checking there appears to be a difference between the two. For example Appendix 11a, Row 589, Zone
10 Very High Risk, Sterile Processing, gives a cleaning frequency of
'AM & PM with 24 hour on call' whereas Appendix 111, Zone 10, High Risk for the same area, Sterile Processing, recommends a cleaning frequency of
'5 days per week, Monday through Friday.
Also on Appendix VIII - Consumables there is an item described as
'Bag, Plastic 33 Gal, Black'. Can you tell me whether this is a compactor sack? Is there a minimum micron strength that you require for plastic bag in general?
Answer
The first question, the frequency called for in Appendix III trumps the room listing. About the bags, we don't specify a minimum micron strength and they are not compactor sacks. We don't have any compactors in the facility. The size listed is what's actually being used but, since these are only really used by the housekeeping staff to empty individual trash bins into, the contractor may use whatever size/strength is required to get that job done and prevent breaking or leaking in doing so.
