About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) Questions and Answers document for RFI-FA5270-26-Q-A046 concerning aircraft tools for the U.S. Air Force.
The RFI addresses vendor confusion regarding the delivery format and packaging requirements for individual tools intended to replenish the Air Force's spare tool inventory. The government clarified that tools must be supplied as individual items without any accompanying packaging, kitting, foam inserts, custom foam inlays, tool cases, or boxes. The government explicitly confirmed that no laser etching is required on any tools, regardless of whether vendors initially believed stock numbers, serial numbers, or other identifying information needed to be etched. All questions regarding kitting, foam, cases, and etching were answered with clarifications that the Air Force has existing containers for tool storage and seeks only replacement tools for broken inventory items. This RFI represents an effort to streamline vendor responses and reduce unnecessary manufacturing costs by eliminating value-added services that the government does not require for this spare parts replenishment effort.

RFI -FA5270-26-Q-A046 Acft Tool
1. Question;
Most vendors are confused about whether this item should be a kit or a box. If so, do you have specifications for the foam insert or the box itself?
Answer;
These are individual tools for our spare tool inventory. No kit or box is needed. The purpose is to replace broken tools in our toolbox, so having them individually separated will work best for us.
2. Question;
Could you confirm whether the VSS should include kitting (foam and case) as part of this item list?
Answer;
No foam or case is needed
3. Question;
The list mentions laser etching, but it does not specify which items need to be etched. Could you please provide a list of which items require laser etching?
No laser etching is needed
4. Question;
Could you please confirm whether custom foam inlays (shadow foam) are required as part of the tool kits?
No foam is needed, we have containers here we put them in to store
5. Question;
Could you please provide the required size and style of the tool case, including any preferred dimensions, material, or configuration (e.g., hard case, rolling case, or toolbox), if applicable?
Answer;
There is no tool box needed. This is for a replenishment of our spare tool inventor.
For tools that broke and need replacement.
6. Question;
Could you please provide more details regarding the laser etching requirements?
For example, are we required to etch specific information, such as stock numbers or serial numbers
