About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Pilot to Dispatch Radio solicitation (FA521525Q0013) issued by the Department of the Air Force Pacific Air Forces. The Q&A addresses technical specifications and operational requirements for a ground-to-air UHF/VHF radio transceiver, with key clarifications including frequency range preferences, system connectivity, and operational configuration.

Specific details from the Q&A reveal the radio will operate in the UHF frequency range (225-399.995 MHz), preferably with 25 kHz channel spacing. The system does not require direct interface with a Voice Communication System (VCS) or recorder, will utilize an existing antenna, and will be operated by a local operator using a hand microphone. The radio is intended for a fixed site installation with 24/7 AC power connectivity, capable of outputting approximately 10 watts at 90% AM, designed to support pilot-to-dispatch communication requirements.

Pilot to Dispatch Radio Q&A

1. The states “UHF/VHF AM Voice with 25khz or 8.33khz channel spacing” and “225-399.995 MHz Frequency Range”. Does the USAF require both VHF (108-174MHz) and (UHF 225-399.975MHz)? UHF ending frequency of 399-995 MHz implies 5Khz channel spacing, is this correct?

1. Does the radio equipment interface with other systems such as a VCS or recorder?

1. Will the radio require an antenna or will the radio interface with an existing rooftop antenna?

1. Does the USAF require a Desktop remote control unit with audio for use by the operator?

1. Will the radio be in a radio room with the operator interfacing to the system on a desk-top remote-control units (Audio and control)?

1. For this specific request only the UHF frequency range would be needed. As for the spacing, 25kH would be preferred as that’s the most common for the US.

2. It does not directly interface with a VCS/Recorder

3. There is already an antenna in place, unsure if it would be compatible as I don’t have information on the proposed radio.

4. This is not required if there is an input for a hand mic and the radio has speakers

5. The operator would be physically at the radio with a hand mic
