FA5004-18-B-C002, Repair Roof Building 3346

Q1. Why is PVC being used and is EPDM acceptable?

A1. PVC has been proven to be a valid single ply membrane with an easier repair ability at base level. The chemical processes for repair are less than that of EPDM. Given the current track record of EPDM, the product has multiple failures base-wide and has a high percentage of failures well earlier than its predicted and warrantied life expectancy.

Q2. Where is the asbestos?

A2. Location of asbestos is unknown. Due to the age of the building and asbestos being found in other similar buildings on base, we are assuming there may be a risk of asbestos containing material in the roofing layers. –1Lt Roy, 354

Q3. Will the abandoned pipes require covering?

A3. All abandoned pipes/duct systems and other penetrations must be sealed off flush with the deck using the same material as the current decking system (Metal decking systems must be welded). Coordinate with Base Mechanical Shops for proper termination, and roof over insuring seal and r value. Follow the manufacturer’s requirements. Section 2.1.2 of SOW.

Q4. Are there any specifications for this requirement?

A4. See answer to question C.

Q5. What is the Tapered installation requirement, ¼ or ½ per foot?

A5. Using at least R38 insulation, it needs to be tapered between 1/4” and 3” roof slope.

Q6. Are any of the existing roof top curbs going to be eliminated and roofed over?

A6. Per the present SOW, curbs will not be removed. For roofing over, please follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the PVC system.

Q7. Do the existing roof top curbs and vent pipes need to be extended to stay a certain distance above the new roof surface? If so, what is the required minimum height above the finished roof? Or do we just need to follow the manufacturer's requirements?

A7. Follow the manufacturer’s requirements.

Q8. With the roof access hatch being within 3' of the roof parapet edge, should we figure permanent guardrail in this area?

A8. Based on the CEOHS current work load, and OPLAN. We ask that the safety remedy be added to the Roof system scope of work. If a Safety RAC is needed, we will pursue one. See section 2.1.9 of the SOW.

Q9. Are safety walk pads on roof required?

A9. Generally, Safety walk pads are requested to be installed at hatches, entry points, high traffic areas, and locations on the roof that may receive Annual or cyclic preventive maintenance. These locations include mechanical hatches, roof access hatches, and roof access doorways. See section 2.1.10 of the SOW.

Q10. Are there any safety or anchor points on the roof?

A10. Currently there are no permanently installed anchor points or fall protection devices.

Q11. What should we do if we find an OSHA violation?

A11. Report all perceived OSHA violations to the COR or the QA/QC representative assigned to the project.

Q12. Is the building sloped?

A12. Yes. See attached as-built. The roof is currently sloped incorrectly with the crickets are off-center of the drains. Taper slope to the center of the drains.

Q13. After we do the new roof insulation system, the parapet walls will need to be extended. Is there a min required parapet height above the finished roof surface the owner would want?

A13. No, follow manufacturer’s specifications.
