Answers to Questions #4
Project FTQW 15-1021
Repaint Hangar Floor (B1232)
21 May, 2015
Q1. Reference Section 09 67 23.15 Page 16: If mechanical grinding prepares the surface sufficiently for coating, is shot blast required?
A1. If the contractor prepares the floor with a grinder IAW ETL 96-5 and the specifications, shot blasting is not required. The contractor must also make sure to keep the airfield free of FOD no matter what method they use.
Q2. Reference Section 09 67 23.15, 1.3.2.2 Flooring System Applicator Qualifications, Page
11: Is certification required or will the technical representative signing off on the project and the
NACE inspections be sufficient?
A2. As long as they have a certified NACE inspector and technical representative will be enough.
Q3. Is the technical representative supplied by the Army Corp of Engineers or do we supply one from the epoxy manufacturer?
A3. The contractor shall supply the their technical representative.
Q4. The work plan listed in Section 9, page 11 states that the work shall be completed within approximately 12 consecutive days. Is this correct or do we have more time? I see this project taking approximately 20-30 days.
A4. This is something we will have to discuss with the user. Due to the time of year it'll be tricky to be flexible, but I think they'll realize how much time is needed to actually finish this and be good to
go. Like I said though, we'll have to get with the user and communicate with them about it.
