QUESTION AND ANSWERS ‐ HJZH 22‐1033, Repair Replace Overhead Doors ASP B55294, 55298

1. Please confirm if the motors and controls for the electric motors for the rolling steel doors require an explosion proof rating? Section 01020 under door motor requirements #2 states "Anti‐ explosive type system". The specification under 2.2.5.3 calls for NEMA 1. Please confirm the type of motors and control required for this project.

A1: Anti‐explosive type system requirement has been removed. Section 01020 SOW has been revised to reflect this change. Motors and controls shall be as per contract document. If requirement is unspecified by contract documents, as per manufacturer’s recommendation.

2. 08 33 23 ‐ 2.2.1.8 and 2.2.1.9 refer's to a locking bottom bar with an interlock. Please confirm if this locking device is required. In the event the motor and controls require an explosion proof system there is no intrinsically safe interlock that will function and meet this criteria. This option can only be provided on a standard NEMA 1 system. Please confirm if the explosion proof is part of the design intent or if a non‐explosion proof system is required that can also have a locking bottom bar and an interlock.

A2: See above question 1. Section 01020 Scope of Work, Rollup door requirements, 4. shall apply.

3. For clarification there are several mentions of fuse links and (1) of smoke seals within the specification. Please confirm there is no requirement for a fire door as these items would be for that type of door construction only.

A3: There are no requirement for a fire door. Section 08 33 23 has been revised to reflect this change.

4. Is rigid conduit required for all electrical and security rough in?

A4: See Section 01020 Scope of work, Electrical requirements, paragraph 3.

5. Are any safety limits other than the sensing edge required for the

OH doors?

A5: See Section 08 33 23. Please note that this section has been revised to reflect question 3.

6. Are door operators to be located adjacent to each door?

The Government assumes that by operators, contractor is referring to remote‐control stations. See

Section 08 33 23 paragraph 2.2.5.6. In order to meet the visibility requirements stated in this section, the remote control station is required to be located adjacent to each door.

7. Are any areas in the facility classified as hazardous? If so please provide the classification.

A7: Yes. Both buildings are classified as hazardous due to storage of ammunition and explosives. The classifications are Above Ground, Un‐barricaded, Storage Magazines. Both currently store 1.4 S/C

Hazard Class Division of explosive material.

8. Please confirm that the LPS system requires no re‐certification.

A8: See Section 01020, General. Contractor is to remove the existing manual exterior metal cage door, manual overhead exterior doors, and rails associated with manual overhead exterior doors. Contractor is to replace these with new steel rollup doors and rails. See Section 01020 Scope of Work, Electrical requirements. When work is performed as described by the contract documents, LPS re‐certification is not required.

9. Due to no previous test results for lead paint and the apparent presence of it due to the age of the building how is the disposal to be considered for pricing? A suggestion would be to have the test occur after award and provide a TCLP result to show which waste stream the debris would use. If lead is higher than anticipated would this be considered a change of conditions? Or will the contractors need to price this as "HOT" for another abatement contractor with proper licensing to take care of the removal and disposal in this base bid?

A9: See section 01020 Scope of Work, paragraph 2. The existing frame needs to be modified only so far as to perform the work as described in the contract documents. The statement of work has revised to reflect this clarification.

10. Is it required to deliver any as‐built information? If so will PDF shop drawings of the overhead door suffice or is electrical and architectural drawings required?

A10: As‐builts are required and shall be as per Joint Base Elmendorf‐Richardson Cad / Gis Record

Drawing As‐Built Standard. Architectural drawings will not be required, provided that other as‐builts such as, but not limited to, shop drawings of the overhead door system and electrical drawings capture the new work/alterations of the project. See Section 08 33 23 para. 1.2.
